Magdalo soldier fails to flee, faces raps

Government prosecutors are set to file rebellion charges against a Magdalo soldier arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) while about to board a plane for the United States Wednesday.

Private First Class Arvin Celestino of the Philippine Marines underwent inquest proceedings at the Department of Justice Wednesday evening following his arrest at the NAIA Terminal 1 around 4:30 a.m.

Celestino was arrested by agents of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP), Intelligence and Security Group and Naval Intelligence.

The suspect will be included as respondent in the rebellion case earlier filed against former vice-president Teofisto Guingona, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim and 33 other Magdalo soldiers in connection with the failed rebellion at Makati City on November 29.

Following the inquest proceedings Wednesday, Celestino was taken to the AFP Detention Center.

Chief Superintendent Atilano Morada, chief of the police Aviation Security Group, said Celestino was about to board a Northwest Airlines flight for Detroit, Michigan when he was arrested. He said Celestino was arrested upon orders of the Marines.

An ABS-CBN News report said Celestino, charged for involvement in the 2003 Oakwood mutiny but was later released after a plea bargaining agreement, allegedly planned to fly to Canada from the United States.

Reports said Celestino was ranked Technical Sergeant before the 2003 Oakwood incident. His involvement in the short-lived uprising resulted to his demotion to Private First Class as part of a plea bargain agreement for the release of the enlisted personnel arrested after the failed mutiny.

Celestino reportedly acquired a US visa after applying for voluntary retirement from the service. The Marines, however, said he has no authority to travel and his retirement has not been approved.

Following his arrest at the airport, Celestino was brought to the office of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Camp Crame after undergoing interrogation by the ISAFP. His family also arrived at the police camp. They declined to give statements to the media.

Director General Avelino Razon Jr., PNP chief, said Celestino is one of the renegade soldiers hunted down by authorities for his alleged participation in last week’s failed rebellion in Makati.

The Press should dig deeper on this one.

Unang-una kung pupunta siya ng US someone has to provide him with an at least tourist visa, paano niya makuha yun kung na sa kulungan siya.
On follow up news, it says, that pag-dating niya sa US meron na siyang trabaho sa Virgina.

Matindi ang nag-finance ng Peninsula seige kung kaya niya pull off ang ganitong escape plan.  Mas matindi pa siya sa mga recruiting agency...LOL.

if i were to base my comment about this report, it seems that these soldiers really dont know what they are fighting about but is merely being used as pawns in a game of chess which is politics
