question about RAM
« on: July 10, 2009, 02:51:20 pm »
Good day, fellas.

i'm using an ASUS X51R with Pentium DualCore 1.86GHZ. it supposedly has 1024mb of memory, but when i run DirectX Diagnostics it only lists up at 896mb.

Is there any way that i can tap on that 'extra' so as to maximize its usage?

I'm also planning to add up an extra 1gb RAM to beef up my notebook.

One more question, if ever i upgrade my RAM, would it also upgrade my VRAM? Because it seems that the VRAM of this notebook is 'shared' from the RAM itself. My VRAM is 256mb.

Thanks very much!

You have an Integrated graphics processor, which means your RAM is shared with it.. The missing 128mb is being used by your GPU..

Also, the Mobility Radeon X300 (your GPU) on your laptop is capable of up to 256mb ONLY, so increasing your RAM wont increase your VRAM. Yours is set at 128mb, thats why you can see 896mb RAM, check out the BIOS if you want change it to 256mb. But that would further decrease your available RAM.
