For Movie Fanatics...The upcoming Movies for 2009
« on: January 09, 2009, 06:57:53 pm »
Eto mga spies...Para sa mahihilig ng big screen...

Eto naman yung mga remake & spin-offs....

A remake of Arthur (1981) is in the works with Russel Brand in the Dudley Moore role.

A remake of Romancing The Stone (1984) is in the works.

A remake of They Live (1988) is in the works from the same production company (Strike) working on The Thing remake. They previously did Dawn Of The Dead (2004).

Speed 3 is in talks at Fox with a hopeful re-introduction of Keanu Reeve's Jack Traven. No word on Sandra Bullock's Annie.

A new Planet Of The Apes movie is in the early stages at Fox. It's uncertain whether it's a direct sequel (or even prequel) to Tim Burton's 2001 "re-imagining" or another re-vamp/reboot. Word has it though that this will be a re-do of the 4th instalment, Conquest of The Planet of the Apes - the one set in futuristic LA where the apes are led by Ceasar, son of Cornelius and Zira in the revolution that led to the apes' original escape from slavery.

The Karate Kid remake has been announced with Stephen Chow (Shaolin Soccer, Kung-Fu Hustle) wanting to direct and possibly play the Mr. Miyagi role. If this is true then expect it to be The Kung-Fu Kid this time with a Chinese/Hong Kong feeling instead of Japan.

Wonder Woman has a new director circling the project: McG.

The Conan the Barbarian reboot is to be kicked off by our friend, Bret Ratner.

The First Avenger: Captain America is due May 2011 and has a new director in Joe Johnson (Wolfman, The Rocketeer, Jurassic Park III, Jumanji). Previous director Nick Cassevettes (The Notebook) is now out. The film will be set in WWII and probably feature the Red Skull as the villain although the cast including Cap have yet to be announced. The film will serve as a pre-cursor to The Avengers due later that year and it has been suggested that the plot of that film may revolve around the thawing-out of Cap who was frozen after WWII.

Nick Fury as played by Samuel L. Jackson, revealed to MTV that he is in negotiations with Marvel to reprise his character (from the end of Iron Man) in not only Iron Man 2 but also Captain America, Thor and The Avengers. If you're wondering how Nick Fury (if he's Jackson's age) could be in WWII, he took a special medication called the Infinity Formula that halted his aging and allows him to be active despite being nearly a century old.

The Avengers movie will be out in 2011 and executive produced by John Favreau, director of Iron Man and Iron Man 2 which is due in 2010. Both are properties of Paramount and set for July releases. The Avengers is set to include Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America although it's still uncertain if Hulk will be part of the team or the villain or even the film's MacGuffin. Robert Downey Jr. has a four picture deal with Paramount to play Iron Man.

A remake of Footloose has been announced with Zac Efron in the old Kevin Bacon lead. This film will be aimed at a more mature audience.

Preacher has been announced for a big-screen adaptation from the DC/Vertigo comicbook with Sam Mendes (Americn Beauty, Road To Perdition, Jarhead) attatched to direct.

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage will bring back Vin Diesel and original director Rob Cohen to cinemas in 2010.

A remake of The Last Dragon is in the works with Samuel L. Jackson already onboard and keen to play the villain Sho' Nuff. Wu ****'s RZA will produce as will Motown Boss, Berry Gordy's son.

Thor - the lead role of the Norse god of thunder was reportedly oferred to Daniel Craig who turned it down due to not wanting the "power-trip" of handling another big hero role after James Bond. Matthew Vaughan who previously directed Craig in Layer Cake has opted out of directing this film to make another comicbook movie, Kick-Ass. Keneth Branagh has now took over as director of Thor and the search for a lead actor continues.

The Incredible Hulk sequel should not be expected soon says Marvel. The film didnt do as well as hoped so they arent in a rush to make another. There are also ideas that they may skip the sequel totally in favour of making Hulk the villain in the forthcoming The Avengers movie.

Bad news, folks. Looks like Lethal Weapon 5 isn't gonna happen now - Mel Gibson has now said he doesnt wanna do it, his reason possibley being that Richard Donner is not involved.

Iron Man 2, due to start filming next year has replaced Terrence Howard as Rhodes with Don Cheadle. Something to do with finance.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is due 2011 - Johnny Depp will be paid a record $32 million to reprise Jack Sparrow reportedly searching for the fountain of youth but this time without Bloom or Knightly. It's not usual that the main star stays and the sidekicks leave the franchise so this feels odd to me. Last I heard Bruckheimer said it would focus on the smaller characters. Is it just me or is Depp selling-out to mainstream Hollywood (Disney and Bruckheimer)?? What happened to his smaller indie/cult films?

Under Seige 3 is still on Steven Seagal's wishlist. He recently said on MTV if it was made he'd like it to contain a "mystical" element rather than the same old government agents/terrorists baddies.

I Heard You Paint Houses is the next Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro movie about the alleged killer of Jimmy Hoffa. It's based on a book but probably wont be released till after Scorsesce's Theodore Rooservelt biopic with DiCaprio in 2011.

A Daredevil reboot is on the cards at Fox. Tom Rothman, CEO, stated the stuidio are giving it serious thought but wont come that "soon". I actually liked the first film very much but would welcome a reboot if its done right and if Fox learned from their mistakes the first time around. Now that The Dark Knight has proved superheroes can be dark and gritty and sucessful, perhaps Fox are more likely to to DD the justice he deserves.

The Green Hornet movie is set for June 2010 release with Seth Rogen as the titular hero with Stephen Chow as Kato, the role made famous by Bruce Lee in the 60s TV show. Chow will also direct this and be his Hollywood directorial debut. The film will be written by Rogen and the same writing partner as Pineapple Express and Superbad. Chow plans to direct after he wraps on Kung Fu Hustle.

Sherlock Holmes, Guy Ritchie's next film will star Robert Downey Jr in the lead role. Dr. Watson has reportedly gone to Jude Law. Joel Silver produces for a 2010 release.

Ghostbusters III is actually being given serious thought at Columbia who have comissioned the 2 writers of the US version of "The Office" to pen a draft. If everyone including, Bill Murray (who has now said he would be involved to some extent) likes the script, it might go ahead. Judd Apatow may also have some involvment and there's talk of some younger GBs taking over. Perhaps Jonah Hill? Seth Rogen?

Spider-Man 4 and 5 look set to be filmed back-to-back with both Raimi and Maguire back say early reports. Shooting a script from the writer of Zodiac is scheduled to begin mid 2009 for a 2011 release. No news on the villian except that a spokersperson said, "you'll know who's cast when you know who the villain is". Could be the Lizard hopefully then.

Two more sequels to The Chronicles of Riddick are in the minds of director David Twohy and Vin Diesel. Diesel and Twohy are determined to get any future films right this time and are contemplating shooting the next 2 films back-to-back.

A Candyman remake is in the early stages ay Sony. Apparently they are thinking of a white guy this time.

Inglorious Bastards, Quentin Tarantino's WWII movie has now cast Brad Pitt, Eli Roth and Mike Myers. Simon Pegg was in but has now had to pull out. It's due next summer.

An I Am Legend prequel is set for 2011. Director Francis Lawrence told ShockTillYouDrop at the San Diego Comic-Con that the rumor of a prequel to the hit Will Smith starring film is true: “Yes, yes, absolutely, we’re actually trying to crack that. We’re trying to figure out some ideas for it, but yes, it would be a prequel,” Lawrence said. Lawrence also confirmed that Will Smith is interested in doing the prequel.

Comic book adaptation, Hercules: The Thracian Wars, is to be directed by Peter Berg (Hancock) who is also prepping the new Dune remake.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is to get a remake from MTV producers of all people. It'll use the same existing screenplay but may feature new songs.

A Nightmare on Elm St. remake is aiming for a 2009 release to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original. Wesley Strick is writing the script, he did Scorsese's Cape Fear, Doom, and The Saint with Val Kilmer.

Tim Burton and Disney's Alice In Wonderland 3-D live-action movie has found Alice in Mia Wasikowska. Burton is aiming for a 2010 release with a script by The Lion King writer, Linda Woolverton.

A Conan The Barbarian spin-off of Thulsa Doom is in the works with Djimon Honsou (Blood Diamond) in the role made famous bY James Earl Jones in the Arnold Schwarzenegger original Conan The Barbarian (1982).

A remake of 10 (1979) is in the works. Original director Blake Edwards is producing or at least given permission anyway for a re-do of his Dudley Moore, Julie Andrews and Bo Derek comedy.

A Robocop sequel has news in the form of director Darren Afronofsky (Pi) who wants to set the film 20 yrs after the "Robocop Programme" from the first film ended. It appears the story will move on to LA and away from Detroit.

Scream 4 has also been picked up by Miramax. It's unkown if it's a direct sequel or completley new characters though.

Wanted 2 is in the works with the original writers and director back with James MacAvoy.

Sherlock Holmes is to get his latest on-screen incarnation in the form of Robert Downey Jr. with Guy Ritchie directing and Joel Silver producing so a more action-orientated story can be expected.

Red Sonja is in talks to get a remake starring Rose MacGowan and to be produced by her new husband, Robert Roderiguez who previously had ideas of doing a remake of futuristic babe, Barbarella.

A sequel to 300 (2007) is in the works with Frank Miller and possibley Zack Snyder back directing if he likes Frank's script. Not certain whether it'll be prequel or sequel though.

Beverly Hills Cop IV is back on! Geddit? Well it was always in the works but there is news now that Brett Ratner is to direct it for a 2010 release. Jerry Bruckheimer won't be back I don't think - he left after the second film but what about John Ashton, Ronny Cox and Paul Reiser? They were sorely missed from the atrocious third film.

A 6th "Dirty Harry" movie is rumoured to be in pre-production with Clint Eastwood back behind and infront of the camera in a story possibley called Gran Torino. It would set up Harry Callaghan as a retired leuitenant avenging the death of his grandson at the hands of a serial killer who drives in a 1973 Gran Torino. WB has always wanted Clint to do another one and Eastwood has jokingly said on a couple of occasions (on Letterman and DVD) that Harry would be found fly-fishing rather than chasing crooks.

A start on a Fame and Robocop remakes/reboots have been announced as being on MGM's plan for 2008.

Rambo V is being drafted by Sly Stallone but has yet to be greenlit. he wants to do something completely different and make it a drama with very little action.

Tin Tin has found it's leading "man" in Thomas Sangster, the kid who played Liam Neeson's son in Love Actually (2003). The film is a collaboration between Speilberg and Peter Jackson.

The "Jack Ryan/Tom Clancy" films are being negotiated with Sam Raimi as director for more than one instalment with an even younger CIA agent as previously seen by Ben Affleck who took over from Harrison Ford. This would be a prequel of sorts showing Ryan's rise in the CIA. Ryan Gosling has been tipped to play the younger agent.

The final Harry Potter film, Deathly Hollows is set to be spread out as TWO films with David Yates directing again.

The new Dune movie has found a director in Peter Berg (Welcome To The Jungle and Very Bad Things) which is supposed to be closer to Frank Herbert's original novel.

Cylcops is a new film (nothing to do with X-Men ) directed by James Mangold (Copland, Walk The Line and 3:10 To Yuma) about soldiers wearing helmets in battle that allow viewers at home to watch but then one soldier discovers the wars they fight are fake and actually only about TV ratings.

Ninja Assassin is the new writer/director collaboration between The Wachowski Brothers and James McTeague who previously gave us V For Vendetta (2005). It also includes Collin Chou who played Seraphin in The Matrix sequels.

The new Street Fighter movie (subtitled "The Legend of Chun Li") has cast Michael Clarke Duncan as Balrog, Kristin Kruek (Smallville) as Chun Li, Rick Yune (Die Another Day) as Gen, Chris Klein (American Pie 1 & 2) as Nash, Taboo from Black Eyed Peas(???) will play Vega and Neil MacDonagh (Minority Report) as Bison. It's directed by that Polish hack Andrzej Bartkowiak who did Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 The Grave and more importantly another famous video-game movie that sucked, Doom.

GI. Joe has it's first image of Ray Park as fan-favourite, Snake Eyes. Added to the cast are Dennis Quaid as General Hawk, Christopher Eccleson as Destro, Marlon Wayans as Ripcord, Jonathan Pryce as the US President and Arnold Vosloo as Zartan.

The Hobbit and it's sequel have now been officially greenlit by New Line with association with MGM. There will be two films of which the latter is to be a direct prequel to LOTR. LOTR director, Peter Jackson will serve as executive producer only. Past rumors included Sam Raimi to direct if he was to pass on Spider-Man 4 and also Australian great, Peter Weir (The Truman Show and Master & Commander).

The A-Team movie has been in talks for years but now director John Singleton (Boyz N The Hood, Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Four Brothers) has been attatched to helm the project which sees the team as veterans of The Gulf War instead of Vietnam like the TV show.

Final Destination 4 is on the way from Daivd Ellis, the director of the second film and Snakes On A Plane (2006). The new sequel will be filmed in 3D.

The WGA strike has apparently now also claimed delays on George Miller's The Justice League of America, Oliver Stone's/Bruce Willis's new Vietnam flick, Pinkville , Matthew Vaughan's Thor and a couple other movies which I'm not too bothered about.

Near Dark (1987) remake is on the way too next year, forgot to say and according to Lance Henriksen at the recent G-mex says it is brought to us from Michael Bay.

PAUL VERHOEVEN is planning a comeback in Hollywood appartently with The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) sequel which will be based on some book and or Topkapi (1964) starring Peter Ustinov. The sequel will be set in Europe with Pierce Brosnan back but without Rene Russo and is set to begin filming in Jan 2008.
As a big Verheoven fan I find this hard to believe and hope it's not true. Sure I'd like Verhoeven back in Hollywood but not with a sequel to a film he had nothing to do with which just doesn't even suit his sex and violence trademark. Anwyay, I thought he was still working on Azazel with Milla Jovavich - a crime thriller set in 1870s Moscow???

A new Poltergeist film is in the works from MGM but it's not known yet if it's a prequel, remake or direct sequel featuring a 30-something yr old Carol Anne Freeling. MGM say the film will move along once the WGA strike is over.

The Stepfather will get a remake with Nip Tuck's Dylan Walsh in the titular lead. Apparently it's going for a Hitchcockian thriller feel rather than a splatter-fet like the original 80s horror.

Metal Gear Solid (2009) the video game franchise created by Konami directed by Hideo Kojima.
