Try the following:
- Try setting both HD jumpers to Cable-Select or "CS" instead of Master (MA) and Slave (SL)
- In your BIOS Configs, set your IDE device configuration to AUTO-DETECT & restart
- Try using separate IDE data cables for each of the drive. Maybe even use a different known-good data cables.
- If you just plug the 160GB drive, do you get the same message? If yes, 160GB drive going bad. Backup files.
- Take out the 160GB & install the 80GB, do you get the same message? If yes, 80GB drive going bad. Backup files.
- If you hear pinging or ticking sounds like a metal bouncing off a metal plate: BACK-UP the files off the drive. Imminent HD hardware failure.
As for the message, some computer vendors such as Dell has a HD diagnostics that runs on startup that checks the conditions of the HDs. Do not disregard their warning. It's there for a reason.
Hope this helps.
