Increase Internet Connection speed in Windows XP !
« on: April 10, 2006, 11:17:31 pm »
How can I increase my Internet connection speed in Windows XP?

This tip is designed for increased BROADBAND speed in Windows XP, but it should work for 56k modems too.

QoS Packet Scheduler is a method of network bandwidth management that can monitor the importance of data packets and depending upon the priority of the packet, give it higher or lower priority or bandwidth levels. It's not very useful unless you're using apps which are QoS-aware or running a server, so you can gain some network overhead back by turning it off.

Note: This following tip will not work on XP Home Edition.

1.Make sure you're logged on as actually "Administrator". Do not log on with any account that just has administrator privileges.
2.Start > Run > type gpedit.msc (not available in home version).
3.Expand the Local Computer Policy branch.
   4.Expand the Administrative Templates branch.
   5.Expand the Network branch.
6.Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left window.
7.In right window double click the "limit reservable bandwidth" setting.
8.On setting tab check the ENABLED item.
9.Where it says "Bandwidth limit %" change it to read 0 (ZERO).
  10.Close gpedit.msc.

Effect is immediate on some systems, some need to re-boot.

waste of time lang yan.

my opinion: hindi nag dedepende sa application or tweaking ng OS ang speed ng Internet but mismo sa provider nyo. It doesn't mean na kung 384KBps yung speed na nasa ads or billing statement nyo ay 384KBps na rin ang speed nyo. A hindi rin ibig sabihin na kaya pang pataasin ang speed mo with the tweakings. Consider your location and reliability ng ISP mo. Consider din yun source speed kung ikaw ay meron dinadownload.

No offese sa topic starter. OPINION lang po. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Peace Out!

hehe now testing, our myDSL account allows up to 1.2mbps and tests report an average of 800kbps, pretty cool  laffman::

Lynksys has released a GAME OPTIMIZED WiFi 802.11 Draft N wirless router that uses QoS and assigns the priority on ur online games and consoles that use online gaming service(PS36Wii)

Peace Out!

QoS(Quality of Service) is a protocol that is responsible for regulating the amount of data traffic u get in and out of ur PC/ISP and is very important for those who are using multiple PCs or even applications online, example: if i was playing a online game demanding a lot of bandwith then another pc in the network is used to DL GB of data off the internet, bandwith will throughout the netwrok will be affected, ur game will experience massive lags and the file download on the other pc will not be as smooth, QoS simply prioritizes the amount of traffic/bandwith that specific PCs(on the network) or applications in ur pc based on their how u configure it, UR PC sets its own limits to the amount of bandwidth u actually have regardless on how fast or slow ur ISP is

this is vital to those who use their internet connection for high end online games and massive data downloading and uploading

removing the limit removes the CAP assigned by ur pc/network to reach(or ven get close) the full potential of ur connection

reliable mga pre..!! nakita ko sa ibang site ito

"
Increase Your Bandwidth By 20%!!!

Increase your Bandwidth by 20%
Windows uses 20% of your bandwidth! Get it back

A nice little tweak for XP. M*crosoft reserve 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes (suspect for updates and interrogating your machine etc..)

Here's how to get it back:

Click Start-->Run-->type "gpedit.msc" without the "

This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:

Local Computer Policy-->Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Network-->QOS Packet Scheduler-->Limit Reservable Bandwidth

Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab :

"By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."

So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%."

sinubukan ko!! aba EFFECTIVE!!  po post ko na sana d2 sa PS.. kaso posted n pala.. hehe
anyways, di naman kumplikado.. basta follow the step by step procedures mga bro!!

sa mga XP Home users, there really is no way you can tweak this.

and if you are on a LAN, this will really make network access and file transfers faster.  this would boost the speed of a cafe setup for LAN games.

but you would rather leave this unchanged if most of the time you are using QoS-aware software over the network (i.e. Microsoft Products, SQL Servers and the likes).

and btw, dial-up users may see signficant increase in their internet speed but for DSL and broadband subscribers, this will not affect the speed that much because your LAN adapter can handle 100 Mbps of data transfer wherein your ISP can only deliver a fraction of that... not even if you have a T1 connection (1.54Mbps).

say you have a 128 kbps subscription, you would be only using 15Kbps, or just over 1%, of the 100Mbps bandwidth of your LAN adapter.

kbps with "k" is kilobits per second
Kbps with "K" is kilobytes per second
