“On behalf of the Government of the Philippines and the Department of the Interior and Local Government, we wish to express our deepest appreciation to the Government of Japan through Japanese Ambassador-Designate Kazuhide Ishikawa and Japanese Councillor Kenji Kosaka for their generous donation,†Bureau of Fire and Protection OIC General Ariel Barayuga reads message of Interior and Local Government chief Mar Roxas during the turn over ceremony of previously used 17 units of fire trucks and 3 units of ambulances from Japan Fire Fighters Association.
The turn over ceremony was held at the National Headquarters of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Quezon City.
These emergency response vehicles will be on areas in Central Visayas devastated by typhoon Yolanda.
During the said ceremony held Sunday, November 23 , Japanese Ambassador-Designate Ishikawa reiterated Japan’s heartfelt condolences to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda and expressed hopes that the Japanese emergency vehicles will help the affected municipalities handling emergency needs.
The Japanese government also donated the sum of USD202,760 equivalent to PhP8.5 million to cover shipment expenses of the said emergency response vehicles from Japan to Philippines. The vehicles arrived in the country through Subic Port earlier this month.
