UFC signs Filipino Bantamweight
Some big news for Filipino MMA and UFC fans as the world’s biggest mixed martial arts promotion announced this week that they have signed a number of fighters to fill up this January’s historic UFC Fight Night card in Singapore. One of the new signees is our very own Dave “Scarecrow†Galera, a native of Baguio City and member of Team Lakay, the same team that has produced some of the Philippines' best fighters such as Eduard Folayang, Kevin Bellingon, Honorio Banario, and many more. Galera has been impressive in his first five pro MMA bouts, compiling a perfect 5-0 record, all of them via finish, four in the first round. In his most recent bout at URCC 23 last April, Galera scored a third round knockout of Reydon Romero and captured the promotion’s bantamweight title.
“Scarecrow†will look to continue his winning ways when he makes his UFC debut in Singapore this January. Galera will be facing fellow newcomer and Singapore native Royston Wee, 2-0 in MMA. Dave Galera makes history as the first homegrown Filipino fighter to step into the Octagon, which is only a precursor as to how soon until the UFC sets the Octagon up in the Philippines. Galera is the first of our many homegrown talents to be called up to the big leagues, but we’re pretty sure he won’t be the last.
