The different groups of EDSA 86 wasn't looking at a single goal for the country. Coming from a dictatorship, it's very unfair to compare the government of CA and FM, una dahil FM ruled with an iron fist and what he says is implemented or else you'll end up on his wrong side, there was coercion during his time while during CA's time nawala yung disiplina na bunga ng takot sa naka upo, naging free for all lahat, unfortunately, kasama na ang corruption na kumalat hanggang sa ibaba. The brilliance of FM is definitely superior over CA's intellect.
What is sad is that some people will dismiss outrightly today the "civil liberties" enjoyed by today's generation. Naisulat ko na din dati sa isang post ko dito na kung walang EDSA uprising, walang espiya.net, walang kalayaan para sabihin na bulok ang pamamalakad ni BA o ni GMA o ni FVR o ni JE o ni CA, yes you can do this during FM's time but you'll always have that threat of getting the ire of Apo and subsequently being sent to jail or end up just like the rest of those who up to now have been yet to be found. Admit it or not, media was FM's during his time, he acquired 2, 4, 7, 9 and 13. Will you say something bad against your boss if he can hear you? I dare you to do that.
Kung yung disiplina noong panahon ni FM ay nag carry over noong panahon after the EDSA uprising, this country will do a lot better. What is funny is some people complain about corruption in the government now yet they do the same thing when they are given the chance to put one over their countrymen. Fast forward to our present time... Did you fall in line today, hindi ka ba sumingit? Did you ask a favor from your friend to process your papers so that you can have it done hassle free? Did you flick your yosi butt in the trash bin? Did you use the pedestrian lane and waited for the color to turn green before you crossed the street? Did you step on your break when you saw the light turn yellow or did you accelerate to avoid getting caught in traffic? I'm sure you have other ideas regarding this and you know what I'm getting at, it really boils down to the people making the right choice.
Have you totally lost faith in your fellowmen? Are you saying that if you are in that position and that chance for corruption crosses your path, will you also be one of those who will justify the kick backs and just moderate your greed? I just can't believe people were brought up this way by their parents. Pero to justify corruption as part of reality and as a necessary evil for a nation's progress is something I will never get used to, it is just not how my parents brought me up. I refuse to merely settle for the better/progressive evil.
In my eyes, EDSA somehow failed because now we see people who are contented with the fact that it is fine to have corruption in the government as long as we see progress in our country. EDSA failed because we are no longer even TRYING to shun away or ostracize these evil deeds, now we welcome corruption with open arms and say,
"I'll have my corruption with progress please, just like the old times, just like the old times."
Sad and pathetic.
