It helps the students themselves.. it teaches them discipline, respect and obedience.. all those traits, sad to say, are slowly disappearing in today's youth..

nakatulong din dahil nalaman mo ang tungtong kanan, lakad patakda, squat, drop like a log and then roll at kung anuanong parusa...

(Reserve Officers Training Corps po  ;D)

Reservists may lend their time through above. They also take part in disaster relief, med missions and may see combat to secure fellow reservists on mission or augment Combat groups.

I guess sa intra- and inter-personal skills development, nkakatulong sya.

But for defense, force augmentation, search and rescue, etc. depende ata sa unit at posisyon kung papaano at ano yung naging training nila.

Parade and Review lng ang 90% sa 2 years training namin

The Gods envy us. They envy us because we're mortal, because any moment might be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again.

I agree that ROTC should be free and not just free the government should shoulder the budget for military training. For those of you gay people who think NSTP should be placed in favor of ROTC I would like to ask you this question. What would you learn from NSTP? Ballroom dancing every sunday? When war comes and it should at least once in your lifetime what will you do? You are most likely be the ones who get a bunch of his comrades killed because he doesn't know how to fire a gun or doesn't want to be in the line of fire because he forgot his sunblock. People think that ROTC is perfect marching and discipline. This is because we derive our ROTC from america. Land of the FREE and home of the GAY. In the middle east and Israel it is real combat training. In fact Miss Israel would probably beat the best Filipino soldier in hand to hand or weapons combat. Men and Women render mandatory military service when they are 18 here we are just taught how to march and do it in perfect timing. ROTC should have been a tool to make men out of men. ROTC should be about survival. Here in the Philippines ROTC is about pondering if this belt buckle is shiny?, if my shoes are spotless, if I should wear make up and laced underwear with this green uniform. Damn I'm really worried why the GAY population who doesn't want ROTC is increasing. GOD SHOULD SEND A SECOND FLOOD. LETS SEE IF YOU SURVIVE.

I took up ROTC up to second class and i undergo advance training for one whole summer in the army reservist camp living the real military way in training ...  we are isued uniforms and go on mock patrols with a regular army guy as trainor for evry 11 man ranger team of cadets

i find it all satisfying but as u say it should be optional and all the gears to shouldered by the government, it made us appreciate the filipino soldiers and the hardship of military life but i would not suggest it to all college students

Peace to all.

ROTC

4. at umupo

at least masaya

But still, if you are going to invade a country you will still need to put your soldiers on enemy territory to secure it. And that is when infantries step in to fight guerilla warfare style.

@zero

If we really want to earn the respect of other nations, we need to be militarily strong and stop relying on American promises of help in case of war or aggression.  Most may not feel it now but in Asia, it seems that the Philppines is the only country that does not have a real defense capability.  If at any time Malaysia or Indonesia wants to invade us, we do not even have a fighter jet or bomber or tank to put up a defense.  But then, we can start where we can be militarily strong and that is on our infantry and that is where ROTC training becomes imperative to both gals and guys.

The Philippines invented guerilla warfare when most of our countrymen did not surrender to the Japs in Bataan but instead, continued hitting the Japs behind enemy lines.  Hence, our ROTC should start jungle warfare training to all first year college students both male and female.  DepEd should see to it that corruption does not seep in so that the  ROTC training that only checks on shiny buckles would be a thing of the past.
