So having a pinay as a mother plus speaking tagalog and then having to eat balut, then only in your eyes makes her a pinay? What kind of crazy standard is that? You are probably discounting more than half of the Philippine diaspora all over the world. Filipinos with offsprings born overseas - who can't speak Tagalog and doesn't eat balut? I have two children who were born overseas- neither one can speak Tagalog fluently and both don't eat balut, but the way they are raised , they more than 100% Filipino.
The way I see it, you actually become more pinoy when you're overseas- this is how you realized how much you miss the Philippines. I've been away 30 years but everday I think about retiring there after my children finishes school.
