MANILA, Philippines - In a move that critics interpreted as a sign of guilt, Sen. Panfilo Lacson admitted yesterday that he had left the country to escape “harassment” from the Department of Justice (DOJ) amid reports that he would be arrested for the Dacer-Corbito double murder case.

“As I had correctly suspected, the harassment by the DOJ upon the order of Malacañang will never stop. That’s exactly the reason why I left the country. I am a victim of a conspiracy of whispers between Mrs. Arroyo and her stooge in the Department of Justice,” Lacson said in a one-page statement.

“For now, my concern is my own personal safety and security. I will not allow Mrs. Arroyo and her cohorts in the DOJ the pleasure of seeing my life miserable and in danger. This is one case that I will dispute the argument – flight is an indication of guilt. I am not guilty but I cannot risk putting my life and security at the mercy of that evil conspiracy,” he said.

Lacson, a former Philippine National Police chief, left for Hong Kong last Jan. 5, a few days before the DOJ recommended that he be charged for the Nov. 24, 2000 murder of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and driver Emmanuel Corbito.

He has repeatedly denied his involvement in the murders.

Sya ang gusto kong maging President before at sya ang last na binoto ko. Until then wala na akong gusto.

On li in da Philippines. Mga senador ang numero unong tinatakasan ang batas. Papaano pa sila magpapatawag ng mga inquiries kung sila mismo tinatakasan ang mga yun? tsk tsk tsk. Villar and Lacson classic examples. Pag itong mga to nangatwiran ok lang may point ek ek pano na lang ordinaryong mamamayan? Pano pala sweldo ni Lacson tuloy pa rin?

last move na kasi nila arroyo kasi mawawalan na sila ng kapangyarihan ngayung taon na ito!

not a PGMA supporter but let's face it. Lacson is guilty. Halata naman e. Matagal na tong mga issues na to at marami na rin nagtestify and nagpatunay. Sana talaga makulong na to. Ang dami na rin napapatay nito.

Di naman ako ganun kakilala sa forums na to pero I think I've been here long enough to say na wala kong history na pagiging barbero. Ang masasabi ko lang may relative ako na napakidnap nila Lacson and Michael Ray Aquino. They were eventually set free after paying the ransom. Sa kanila (victims) mismo nanggaling at nakakita kay Lacson. Di ko na kwento buong details. No joke.

i too agree with lacson.

lutong malacanang naman talaga un statement na binigay ni mancao halatang merong kulay politika.

as well, the justice department has been biased against the oppositions since raul gonzales and now with agnes devanadera.

it will be a lose-lose situation for lacson to stay and have himself confined at the senate building where he can't be arrested but then he can't stay there forever, can he?

our justice system sucks, bigtime.. dapat dyan mga non appointed officials ang nakalagay!

Ang pinagkaiba lang ay kung gaano kaingay sa Senado na harapin ni Villar ang mga paratang sa kanya, nakakabingi ngayon ang katahimikan nila sa isyung ito ni Lacson. Mantakin niyo mas mabigat ang kasong hinaharap ni Lacson.
