laptop problem... please help
« on: August 29, 2008, 11:38:07 pm »
I have a DELL Latitude CPx HG500T that I use. But since it has only 20Gb of hardrive space, I need an external hardrive. I connect a desktop hardisk to a 2.0 usb PCMCIA card connected to my laptop for file saving and it works awesome. Since a desktop hardisk needs external power, I decided to purchase a laptop hardisk together with an enclosure. Now here's the problem... Whenever I connect this laptop hardisk... it turns my screen off without any warning and it doesn't respond. But my laptop is on and indicates power. I tried to troubleshoot this issue like changing laptops, changing pcmcia cars and changing usb ports and I can't figure out which has the problem...

a: the laptop hardisk
b: the 2.0 usb PCMCIA card or
c: the laptop's PCMCIA port

for those good soul out there, I seek assistance... and anything will be appreciated.

Thanks!

malakas ang drain sa power ng hard disk mo, stick ka na lang dun sa may external power.  yan di problem ko nung try ko yung hard disk ng laptop.  try ko nga gamitin ng nakasaksak charger tapos umusok charger ko.

Nakalimutan kong ilagay na try ko is external laptop hardrive to use as a backup for my internal laptop hardisk. Medyo maliit lang kasi yun internal, 20Gb. Try ko mag add ng external laptop hardisk na 40Gb to save some of my files and programs na di masyado ginagamit. Pag sinsaksak ko yun external HD to my USB 2.0 PCMCIA card, namamatay yun monitor. Ginagamit ko yun USB 2.0 PCMCIA card to make my laptop have usb 2.0 capability. Sorry for the incomplete information. Kun medyo sa tingin nyo parang incomplete pa din ang description ko, reply lang po.

Ravenshawn - di po nya papalitan yun internal hd, external po yun dagdag ko. Thanks for the replying though.

mikol1971 - Sorry to hear that. Medyo ganun na nga ang malamang na mangyari if ever na yun external laptop HD e di gumana. Malapit na din kasi maubos yun space ng external desktop hardisk ko eh. Thanks for the advice.

it does sound like kulang nagkulang ang power pag saksak mo ng external laptop HDD (since it will use power from the laptop). although, this normally shouldn't be the case. if your external laptop HDD has two USB connectors, use both (that is the reason why some has two connectors, specifically for use with laptops)

Ni-try na rin namin yun Bossing but still no luck. Parang lumalabas, laptop ko ang me problema. It won't take foreign laptop hardisk. Parang she can detect desktop hardisk lang. Di ko pa din maahanap solution nito. Maraming troubleshooting na nagawa ko. I even tried to re-install O.S. just to eliminate software issues. Pero ganun pa din. Thanks for the reply. =(
