Philippines wins 'Most Romantic Destination' award in Shanghai
MANILA – Chinese readers of Shanghai Morning Post chose the Philippines as the “Most Romantic Destination†in a consumer survey, prompting the newspaper to give the award to its southeast Asian neighbor.
The awarding ceremony was held on January 15 at the posh Shanghai Peninsula Hotel by the Bund, the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a news release.
Consul General Charles C. Jose received the award, which was presented by Miss Liu Sha, editor in chief of the daily. He was accompanied to the event by Niel Ballesteros of the Philippine Tourism Office in Shanghai.
Other country-winners include:
* Australia as “The Best Tour Destination for Discoveryâ€
* Switzerland as “The Best Shopping Paradiseâ€
* Korea as “The Best Skiing Destination†and
*Germany as “The Best Destination for Art Appreciationâ€
On January 9, the Philippines received one of the “Best Tourist Destination†awards given by the Oriental Morning Post during its annual World Travel – Special Trips Awards.
More and more Chinese are traveling to the Philippines especially during this winter season and for the upcoming week-long Chinese New Year holiday in February.
Several Philippine carriers have re-launched their flight services from China to the Philippines to cater to the growing demand of Chinese travelers for short-haul beach holidays.
Airphil Express reactivated its chartered flights from Shanghai to Kalibo on November 30, 2012. This was followed by Zest Air, which also increased its regular flight frequency from Shanghai to Manila in December 2012.
The regular multiple flight services to Manila continue to fly steadily out of Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen, Jinjiang, and Guangzhou.
