LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Philippine Airlines jumbo jet has landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport after declaring an emergency because of a possible blown tire.

The Boeing 747 touched down smoothly around 9 p.m. Friday. The pilot initially descended to a low altitude so a police helicopter could inspect the tire’s condition, then pulled up again and circled before landing.


Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Mike Fergus said the pilot reported that the jet may have had a blown tire upon takeoff from Manila and declared an emergency landing. The aircraft idled on the runway as fire trucks and other ground crews surrounded it.

An airport spokeswoman said 400 passengers and 20 crew members were aboard the plane.

a bad landing gear won't necessarily worsen if it's kept inside the plane already.. it's a waste of time if he chose to land on another airport other than it's destination, eventually also delaying the passengers.. it won't affect the entire flight anyway, just the landing.. so, might as well do it on its destination and he declared it as an emergency.

make  sense,  but sakin lang dami daan na malapit like guam ,tapei ,honolulu ,japan or pa balik sa pinas, maybe yng pilot maspinili nalng nya dun sa LAx mag emergency  land kc alam nila may kakayahan cla. like nag palipad pa ng chopper pra matingnan yng gulong. sa pinas kaya? then after all na convince na rin cguro yng pilot na ibaba na.


scary kasi ito yng isa sa pinakamalaki plane ng PAL.

    I agree with you Sir. And also, baka naisip ng Piloto na mas equipped ang America para mag-respond sa mga ganitong scenario kesa sa ibang mga lugar na mag-emergency landing sya. Kudos to the Pilot. Saludo ako.

i think after he manage this one, maybe he has now been "hunted down" by some different airline companies to pilot their carriers that's why he has been yet unnamed.. if i were him i'll accept the offer and leave PAL

Sa eroplano yeah extremely chief.
Have you seen "seconds from disaster" from discovery channel?
Everything na nakakabit sa plane is made/product of careful calculation = dinadagdagan ang gulong kasi mabigat ang plane para kayanin nya ang weight nun and once me pumutok na isa,there is a danger na ma overload ang remaining tires lalo na pag touchdown moment and the plane could crash. Swerte if hindi fully loaded ang plane but if it is then delikado = a brand new Boeng 747 cost 317.5 million dollars brandnew and that is a lot of money to waste pag ng crash.

Mautak ang pilot = pag bumalik sya sa Manila and ng emergency landing sya pwedeng maabala ang ibang flights sa NAIAA and that would cost millions.I admit hindi naman ganun ka worst na problem but nandyan pa din ang threat.
