Senate likely to reopen Garci probe, says Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel JrBy AUREA CALICA

The Senate hearing on the “Hello Garci†controversy is likely to push through next week as opposition senators, from both the majority and minority, declared support for the move of Sen. Panfilo Lacson to reopen the issue.
Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. debunked claims of Senators Joker Arroyo, Richard Gordon, Miriam Defensor-Santiago and Juan Ponce-Enrile that the chamber would be committing an illegal act if it pushed through with the investigation because of Republic Act 4200 or the Anti-Wiretapping Law.
Senate President Manuel Villar Jr. and Senators Francis Escudero and Pia Cayetano have also batted for “closure†to the “Hello Garci†scandal.
Lacson expressed confidence that once put to a vote, the Senate could go ahead with the hearings, beginning with the testimony of his main witness, former military intelligence agent T/Sgt. Vidal Doble.
