to go LGA2011 or stick with LGA1150
« on: November 07, 2014, 08:57:47 pm »
ok so since last week, yung ROG laptop ko nagkaroon ng problema. although under warranty pa naman (2 years global warranty), ang sabi it will take around 45 days (I assume working days so mga 2 months more or less). kaso lang medyo duda ako kasi ang unang diagnosis is power adapter daw ang problema. eh kaso may battery naman yun so dapat gumana parin. and also yung may-ari ng shop na binilhan is also using the same model and same problem, power din. pero yung sa kanya ganun din ang first diagnosis is adapter pero pag dating ng adapter sabi board daw so pinalitan din ang board. bottomline matagal ang hihintayin to get it back

since I need something to use, I am now thinking of getting desktop instead and just sell the ROG laptop later. kaso eto ang nagiging problema ko, to go with the new LGA2011, i7-5820 and DDR4 or stick with LGA1150, i7-4790K and DDR3. of course mas mahal ang LGA2011 and DDR4 (difference of a total of around 10k for all 3 components, which isn't that bad anymore). BUT, the i7-5820k only has 3.3Ghz as compared to 4.0Ghz of i7-4790k (although its 6 cores, 12 threads vs 4 cores, 8 threads but then again I'm not sure I will be able to utilize all those cores anyway). i am a heavy multitasker (i.e. spreadsheet, games, browser, accounting software, messenger, video playing, etc) but I'm not sure I will be able to utilize all 8 threads (or even 12). as with most software, those I use also mostly do not take advantage of more than 1 core so the higher clock speed from i7-4790k might be a better choice than the 5820k

so question is to those who have already tried the LGA2011, is it worth it? or go with a cheaper LGA1150 processor and wait for broadwell sometime early next year?

I read a thread about this on  Tomshardware.com forum

and the best answer is

well, that's easy to decide>
Do you play around in CAD?
Do you need to encode video regularly and/or wish to stream your gameplay?
Do you fool around in photoshop /and/or other apps/ and get paid for doing so?
Do you use mostly heavy threaded apps?
Do you like to virtualize and test many things OS/network/whatever?

1 point for every yes:
4-5 pts - LGA 2011
2-3 pts - LGA 1150 + i7
0-1 pts - LGA 1150 + i5

 ::moreinfothis thread?

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1707190/lga1150-lga-2011.html

its dated 2013 so the answers might not be very relevant now since I'm pretty sure the LGA2011 being talked there is not the LGA2011-3 thats out now

yup that's the thread , it's my go to site when asking hardware infos

hmmm...all i can say about the new chipset is it can support 6 to 8 core

first to support DDR4 and good for Overclocking that can enable 4 GPUs

it's basically good for gaming and bad for my wallet  ::lmao

i think I will be sticking to LGA1150 and the i7-4790K. i think i will benefit more from the higher clock speed although lower number of cores
