Question: cold air intake installation
« on: June 08, 2013, 02:41:04 am »
ask ko lang mga ka-espiya is it necessary to put in the "box" na pang harang sa Cold Air Intake?

stock air filter ung una paps.. tapos ung second pic racing filter naman. mas malakas humila at maingay ng konti pag naka racing filter.

That box is the stock or OEM air filter. the one's open na prang cone style are after market. branded as Simota and K&N. Personally I would opt to choose the stock coz mas intact ang filter nyan and walang whooing sound na parang humihigop and aside from that mas expensive ang mga simotas filter. pros of open filter, mas malakas hatak. better fuel consuption. cons you have to change oil more frequently because open na nga siya pwedeng marestrict yung flow of air pag madumi na causing loss of power as well.

Yes that's very basic, kahit yung stock air filter if madumi na siya you have to change it too, what I meant by linis is replace it with a new one. naka simota air filter ako without harang na sa nakalagay sa picture mo. I havent change mine since expensive nga siya. but usually in casa dapat every 5000km kasabay ng change oil..

nagpapalit ng aftermarket filter because they want to attain more power bradier. the more fuel you give the more power/acceleration you will gain. If you increase fuel, you need to increse air. dapat maintain mo ratio. the colder the air, the bigger in volume,(combine gas law).

aftermarket filters look good. but pors have higher microns compared to stock filters. thus, it doesnt filter much dirt as dirt as the stock filters. if you use after market filters, mas marami dust , dirt foreign particles na pwedeng makapasok.

So ikaw nalng mag timbang bradier, which is your priority. looks, power, fuel consumption, life span ng engine :)

yan lang po :D

did you know what underneath that black piece of crap box is another white airbox? It looks like your windshield washer container, just twice the size. Is your Integra running on a B-Series engine? What I replaced my stock intake back then was the Iceman cold air intake system. It runs on a solid plastic tube from the manifold to either the back of the headlight, like what you have in the 2nd pic, or you can put the competition extension. What that does is your cone filter will go all the way down to the back of your bumper - below the headlights - infront of your wheels. The tube is made of plastic to prevent the air coming in from heating up. On the side, it also produces this really nice sound when you floor the gas and go all they way up to the rev limit. Changing your intake system to a freeflow will save you gas, increase power and help the engine breathe better

This is how my Engine bay looked like back then, though my Iceman system was blue and not gray

if your intake tube is plastic then it's ok. In my case, ICEMAN was already embossed on the tube. Stickers that come with performance parts are meant to be put on your windshield, windows, or by the door, hehe
