as long as it is well ventilated and it doesn't heat up I see no problem.  I've had mine on for like 8 days at the most but it is on a cooler and i use a software to monitor its temps.  with regards the cooler , make sure the fans aligns and that their directions are the same.

your processor's heat sink might clogged up due to dust and it will go over heat most likely your processor might get burned up

Tamar si pareng kenji, it is advisable to use those coolers to help lower down your lappy's temperature.  Just like what I said make sure that the fan aligns with your laptop's "holes" and that the direction of the air of the cooler and that of your laptop, of any, is in the same direction.  I remember I had to "reverse" the fan in my cooler for it to "coincide" with my lappy's internal fan direction.

To minimize the dust that has accumulated inside, I blow air through the various holes on the laptop.  I however immobilize my laptop's fan inside before doing this by sticking a paper clip in it for it not to move.  I am afraid the high pressure of the air being blown inside might spin the fan too fast and might damage it.

prone to overheating yan if hindi maganda yung ventilation mo.... not unless design for gaming ang laptop na gamit mo kasi design siya for long time usage...

else if hindi mo naman ginagamit laptop mo.. shutdown mo na lang... ma prolong mo pa life ng laptop mo and its peripherals, plus you can help save our planet earth pa by conserving energy.. :P

and advise ko is, pagnaka plug ka sa outlet, tanggalin mo yung battery... laptop battery is designed for mobility since nasa bahay ka naman eh mas ma igi tangalin na lang yung battery and mag direct ka sa outlet... then use your battery once in awhile
