DTI holds Diskwento Caravan in Tacloban, Leyte and Samar

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will hold a series of Diskwento Caravans in the provinces of Leyte and Samar as it seeks to ensure stable food supply and sell basic commodities at discounted prices to families affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda.

“After our first stop (Nov. 14,) in Ormoc City, we will hold more Diskwento Caravans in Leyte, particularly in the towns of Maasin and Baybay,” DTI regional director for Central Visayas Asteria Caberte said.

The DTI’s Diskwento Caravan will be in held in the municipality of Maasin on Monday (Nov. 18), and Baybay on Tuesday (Nov. 19).

The schedules for the cities of Calbayog and Catbalogan in Samar are still being finalized.

“The people appreciated our first Diskwento Caravan in Leyte, and even requested us to stay longer for a few more days, or even a week,” Caberte said.

The Diskwento Caravan is a flagship project of the DTI providing consumers access to discounted basic goods.

The products being sold at discounted prices during the Diskwento Caravan are bottled water, canned goods, coffee, milk, noodles, rice, biscuits and bread.

The participating companies are Gardenia Bakeries Philippines Inc., Nutri-Asia, Nestle Philippines, Century Canning Corp. and San Miguel Pure Foods Co. Inc.

For the succeeding caravans, the DTI said other items will be added to the product offerings such as detergent, flashlights, batteries, candles, rice, eggs and dressed chicken.

For more information on the Diskwento Caravan, individuals can contact DTI Central Visayas at telephone numbers (032) 255-0036 or 255-0037.

Earlier this week, President Aquino declared a state of national calamity following the destruction caused by Yolanda in Eastern Visayas.

With the declaration of state of national calamity, a nationwide price freeze on basic commodities is in effect.

DTI Consumer Welfare and Business Regulation Group Officer in Charge Victorio Mario Dimagiba said earlier the price freeze which covers canned sardines; evaporated and condensed milk, coffee refill; laundry bar and detergent; candles; bread (Pinoy Pandesal and Pinoy Tasty); instant noodles; bottled water; salt; National Food Authority rice; fresh egg; dressed chicken; sugar; pork as well as emergency drugs identified by the Department of Health, will be in place until lifted by the President.

For items such as LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) for household use and kerosene however, the price freeze will be implemented for 15 days after the publication of the price guide.

MANILA, Philippines - After holding a series of Diskwento Caravans in Samar and Leyte to offer basic goods at discounted prices and help stabilize the food supply, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is set to conduct another one in Tacloban City on Friday.

In a statement, the DTI said Tacloban City would be its last stop for its series of Diskwento Caravans in towns hit by Typhoon Yolanda.

The Diskwento Caravan has already been held in Ormoc City, Maasin City and Baybay City in Leyte as well as in Calbayog City and Catbalogan City in Samar.

DTI regional director for Central Visayas Asteria Caberte said that through the caravans, the department is helping replenish local supply of goods to stabilize the situation in those provinces.

The Diskwento Caravan is a flagship project of the DTI that provides consumers access to discounted basic goods.

The products offered in the Diskwento Caravans include bottled water, canned goods, coffee, milk, noodles, rice, biscuits, bread, condiments and personal care products.

The participating companies in the caravans are Gardenia, Nestlé, Century Canning, Unilever, San Miguel Pure Foods Co. Inc., Dranix, and Alturas Group of Companies.

The local trader River Valley Distributor Inc. and the National Food Authority also participated in distributing canned goods and rice, respectively, in Samar.

DTI provincial director for Southern Leyte Michael B. Nuñez said people were grateful to have direct access to wholesalers and buy products at discounted prices.

Nuñez said most of the goods were sold out as people in the neighboring towns also went to the caravans.

In a related development, the DTI said it has launched the Oplan Stores website www.openstores.yolanda.dti.gov.ph to serve as guide for consumers who are looking to open business establishments in typhoon-hit areas in the Visayas.

“Because of the challenging road to recovery ahead in typhoon-stricken regions, each re-opened store shows one step towards rehabilitation. The Oplan Open Stores Website serves as a guide for the public, the media covering the area and relief effort groups who are in need of supplies,” DTI Secretary Gregory Domingo said.

By visiting the website, the public can view a list of all open stores in typhoon-affected areas by clicking the name of the province in the map.

It also allows the public to send feedback to DTI on open stores that are not in the list.

As of Nov. 19, a total of 110 business establishments have resumed operations in the following areas: Tacloban, Ormoc, and Palo in Leyte as well as in Catbalogan and Calbayog in Samar, Maasin and Baybay in Southern Leyte, Borongan in Eastern Samar, and Catarman in Northern Samar.

Among the business establishments that reopened are public markets, grocery stores, drug stores, gas stations, malls, hardware stores, and water refilling stations.

BILYON BILYON YUNG MGA DONATIONS TAPOS MAGBEBENTA SILA?!

how can we be so sure na hindi nga yung mga donations galing sa ibang bansa itong mga binebenta nila?

Well some of it went to relief and rescue operations, some of it might go to infrastructures but most of it might go to heartless corrupt politicians.

FYI lang mga sirs, according to news hindi napunta sa gobyerno yung mga donations na galing sa ibang bansa, most of it ay napunta sa mga NGOs at red cross like yung sa US ay binigay sa USAID.
Life is not about the people who act true to your face,

It's about the people who remain true behind your back.
