Agusan town to declare ‘Lolong’ a hero

Magpasa din sila ng bill sa kamara at senado dahil sa dami buwaya doon na napakalupit at kapal ng mga mukha.


BUNAWAN, Agusan del Sur, Philippines—Local officials here are bent on declaring “Lolong,” the world’s largest saltwater crocodile in captivity that died Sunday night, as its hero  through an ordinance that the Sangguniang Bayan has agreed to pass.

Mayor Edwin Elorde said the town’s councilors agreed during a meeting on Monday that Lolong deserved to be declared a hero for bringing prestige to the town, which found a place on the world map following  Lolong’s capture in September 2011.
“We agreed to honor him as a hero through local ordinance so that such legislative move will be permanent,” Elorde said.
Elorde, who said in previous interviews he had become so attached to Lolong that he regarded the reptile as “a son,” said the crocodile’s capture also raised awareness on the need to protect the biodiversity of the vast Agusan Marsh, part of which falls under his town’s jurisdiction.

Diba kumain ng tao si Lolong kaya hinuli? Tapos gagawin pang hero? Nakakatawa yung part na he regarded the reptile as “a son,”. Pareho yata sila ng lahi ni Lolong.. ::lmao

Hero for bringing prestige to the town..

I, myself is from Agusan and you know what madami hindi nakakaal kung saan ang Agusan. Parang unknown place. Pero simula nung nahuli si Lolong unti unti ng nakikilala ang Agusan. Nabuhay ang turismo sa lugar. Kunf dati dinadaan lang sya ng mga traveller, ngayon isa na sya sa dinadayo. Kaya nakakalungkot yung pagkawala ni Lolong. :(
Isa lang din sa pinakamahirap na lugar ang Agusan kaya malaking kawalan to sa kanila.

Hero kase pinagkakitaan nila, ngayon gusto nila gawin hero para nga naman dayuhin parin ng mga tao kapag nilagay nila sa museum, tindi talaga ng mga utak dapat sila ang nilalagay sa kulungan ni Lolong.

Excuse me po ,Alam ko kung nasaan ang Agusan kahit wala pa si Lolong... isa iyan sa pinakapobreng probinsiya dati, sa probinsiya nagsimula ang PAPERLESS Sangguniang Panglalawigan session na TINUTULARAN na ngayon ng ibang bayan. Matindi ang Provincial Information Management Office (PIMO)  nila na pinangungunahan ni Neph Morgado, matitindi ang systems nila sa capitol, at highly recommended ng PEP-NET Philippines ang Community Based Monitoring System (CBMS) na ginawa ng agusan (May system na dati ang CBMS pero very complicated at mahirap intindihin kaya gumawa ang taga agusan ng sarili nila na mas madali) marami ng bayan sa Mindanao na ang CBMS na gawa ng taga Agusan ang kanilang ginagamit. Ang CBMS ho pala ay isang tool para mapinpoint o malaman kung ano ang kakulangan sa isang munisipyo, barangay o purok at para maibigay kung ano ang dapat at tama na proyekto ang maibigay kaya instead na basketball court ay Water system o paaralan nalang or kung ano man ang tamang pangangailan ng community. Ang kapitolyo ng Agusan del sur sa tingin ko ay ang pinaka the best at modernong systems. blah blah blah etc etc. etc... -end

Sa tingin ko ang pagdedeklara bilang hero si Lolong ay napakaABSURD sa kadahilanang ito ay hinuli sapagkat ito ay kumain ng bata. bakit hindi nalang RECOGNITION ang ibigay kay Lolong , nirerecognize kasi dahil sa kanya mas naging kilala ang bayan nila.  ISANG MALAKING KABALIWAN ANG GAWING HERO SI LOLONG

those IDIOTS killed a creature than may have lived for more than a century and now they want to make a joke out of it just to stay in the spotlight?

he was living fine in the wild, surviving then he was placed in captivity and died, PETA should be on their asses for taking a creature out of its natural habitat and depressing it so badly that after living free for so long it would rather not eat and die

Has it been confirmed that Lolong actually devoured any of the victims attributed to him? From what I can recall, the only remains found in his stomach after his capture belonged to carabaos.

well yun na lng ang ang kanilang magagawa gawing hero... Susunod nyan baka yung logo ng lalawigan nila gawin na Crocodile at pagawan pa ng Statue Of Lolong :D as tourist attraction. . . Lolong Died because of them. . . Poor decision . . .

hindi makatarungang ihalintulad ang buwaya sa taong sakim. Ang buwaya, tulad ng lahat ng hayop ay may ginagampanan sa kanyang habitat. magkaroon naman tayo ng respeto para sa kalikasan

@Abusado2 excuse me din po, im referring my post to all hindi lang naman sayo. And im just highlighting the reason kung bakit nila gagawing Hero si Lolong. Kahit ako di ako sang ayon sa ginawa nila sinabi ko lang ang impact ni Lolong sa lugar dahil sa turismo.

Hero is too much... Pwede pa sigurong provincial mascot or icon.
Sa una palang dapat hindi na nila kinulong si lolong... Lumaki si lolong sa wild at hindi sa kulungan na maliit para kay lolong. Instead dapat ginawa yung area kung saan nakatira si lolong at ibang pang buwaya na protective/conservatory  area under the provincial gov't and DOT control... Sa paraan na yun nasa natural habitat ang mga buwaya at may matutunan pa ang mga turista sa mga buwaya.
