For night sky watchers...
On June 16, 2011 the first of two total lunar eclipses in 2011 will be visible in the Philippines. It will also be visible completely over Africa, and Central Asia, visible rising over South America, Western Africa, and Europe, and setting over Eastern Asia including the Philippines and Australia. The second total lunar eclipse will be visible also from the Philippines on December 10-11, 2011.
This one is particularly special because the Moon passes almost exactly in front of the center of the Earth's shadow during totality phase thus will giving our local viewers a long totality time of around 100 minutes (I hr 40 mins) .
Penumbral phase starts at around 1:25am PST (Philippine Standard Time) but at this period, the penumbral shading will not yet be noticeable until more or less around 2:00am PST. Umbral phase starts at around 2:23am PST with the umbral shadow starting to cover up the Moon until it reaches totality at around 3:23am whereas the Moon will be totally covered by the Earth's shadow and will show a nice reddish coloration. The Moon will be inside the totality phase for around 1 hour 40 minutes before it exits the totality phase at around 5:03am PST. By this time, the Moon will be quite low already at around 6 deg SW and will set in the SW horizon at around 5:30am
