MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Abu Sayyaf gunmen on Sunday killed six soldiers who were guarding a road project that has been delayed by militant attacks in an impoverished southern Philippine province, the military said.
The soldiers were patrolling the outskirts of a farming village in Sumisop town on the island province of Basilan when about 20 heavily armed Abu Sayyaf fighters opened fire, sparking a 45-minute battle, army Col. Rolando Bautista.
At least one soldier also was wounded. It was not immediately clear if there were rebel casualties.
The Abu Sayyaf, which is on a U.S. list of terrorist organizations, was founded in the early 1990s in Basilan, a predominantly Muslim province in the majority Catholic nation, about 880 kilometers (550 miles) south of Manila. Despite many battle setbacks, the group has endured, surviving mostly on kidnappings and extortion, and remains a national security threat.
Bautista said he deployed additional troops to pursue the attackers, who were led by a commander he identified as Radzmi Jannatul.
The attack came as hundreds of troops hunted down Abu Sayyaf gunmen on nearby Jolo island, where the militants freed two German tourists last month reportedly after a huge ransom payment.

Bakit kaya hindi matugis tugis etong mga rebelde na to? Para bang hinahayaan lang na manirahan sila ng matiwasay sa kanilang baryo tapos parang may nagtetext sa kanila na mang gulo kapag merong mga katiwaliang nangyayari sa gobyerno o kaya patungkol sa US.

Paano mawawala ang mga rebelde??? e mismo gobyerno ang nagbibigay ng suporta gaya na lamang ng mga armas,,, May kaibigan nga ako ret. military soldier at na-assign din jan sa mindanao,,, sabi pa niya mga armas na nakukumpiska nila sa mga rebelde may tatak na "property of phil. government" if i'm not mistaken... sila nagke create ng instability sa isang bansa para makapag "offer" sila ng tulong at sila ang maging tagapagligtas pero sa background, sila ang nagbebenta ng mga armaments sa mga "kalaban".

hmmm...I heard a lot of issue about it , specially during Yasser Arafat the US gave him money just to stop Terrorism , but it could be since Republicans like war so much and the Democrats lost the Senate majority
but you know, US needs money they need to sell weapons for them to earn money same as Israel because US is run by Jewish people
so some of Abu Sayyaf says they wanna join ISIS or ISIL well they can have the stuff they want but US are not playing fair
they (Abu Sayyaf) might have AKs and RPG US have 500lbs of JDAMS and Stealth Helicopters and Jets
if they fire 7.62 rounds US will shot 50 cal HMG on a Armored MRAP that's how fair it is...
