Prayer Before Surgery
Loving Father, I entrust myself to your care this day; guide with wisdom and skill the minds and hands of the medical people who minister in your Name, and grant that every cause of illness be removed, I may be restored to soundness of health and learn to live in more perfect harmony with you and with those around me. Through Jesus Christ. Amen.
Into your hands, I commend my body and my soul. Amen.
We bring you, O God, our fears and apprehensions.
Respond with the blessings which inspire trust and create courage.
Remind us that you use many instruments for healing:
the science of medicine,
its miracles of medication and machine,
the skill of physicians and specialists and
those who work with them,
the compassion of loved ones and friends.
Use every instrument for the success of this operation
so that its outcome will be healing.
And where these instruments are not sufficient,
intervene by your Holy Spirit to restore strength,
to prevent pain and to hasten recovery.
We ask it in the name of Jesus, the Great Physician.
