The Philippine Air Force (PAF) has outlined an intention to further strengthen its capabilities through a procurement of close air support (CAS) aircraft.

PAF spokesman Col Miguel Okol told IHS Jane's on 1 April that the PAF has received from the Philippines Department of National Defense (DND) a "notice to proceed" to acquire six CAS aircraft.

He said the procurement will progress through an open bidding process, "which would be up soon for tender". Col Okol added that the acquired aircraft will be "in the class of" the Embraer EMB 314 Super Tucano, the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II or the Pilatus PC-21.
