We'll admit to being a little blown away when Microsoft launched the Surface -- it was an impressively polished tablet that we had heard barely a whisper of leading up to the mysterious launch event. But, there was one thing that we were still left wondering: how much would it cost? Now, with Acer getting all in a huff about competition and Microsoft conceding that some OEMs might be a little upset when this thing ships, we might just have an idea for you. According to an inside source, a session was held at Microsoft's recent TechReady15 conference in which all the launch details were laid out. If things go according to the plan detailed then, the Surface for Windows RT tablet will be launching October 26th -- no surprise there -- at a compelling price of $199.

That MSRP, almost certainly lower than Microsoft's own cost, would line it up against the Nexus 7 and even the Kindle Fire. It would put Windows 8 on the map in a big way and give a lot of people a lot of reason to try out an operating system that is going to feel rather different than previous incarnations. The question is: will it drive enough sales of media and apps for Microsoft to recoup its loss? Or, will companies like Acer put up enough of a fight in the months between now and October to keep Microsoft from undercutting its own partners? We'll find out soon, dear readers.

Kung talagang $199 ilalabas yung Windows RT version, tinalo pa ni Microsoft yung first attempted price launch ni HP sa Touchpad WebOS tablet nila dati. Sana mura din ilabas yung Pro version ng Surface for those who need the backward compatibily. Kung sakali, ito ang mababagay sa mga studyante- presyong pang masa. Halos parang bumili ka lang ng high-end na China Android tablet nito, but you get the essential functions including native MS Office which will come pre-installed. Kailangang makapagipon na ng pambili.  toast::

that price, $199, is really surprising !
maraming comment sa post na iyan sa YT:
"That price is complete rumor"
"I will cut my balls off if this is $199. My bet will be $449-$499 for the RT version. $999 - $1199 for the Pro version"
etc..

Good Morning po sa lahat !

its not actually impossible for MS to sell it at a LOSS to them at $199 since thats what they did with the XBOX360 and look at where the XBOX360 stands now, top dog of the console world looking down on the PS3 and whatever mess Nintendo has

MS actually is pushing for WINDOWS 8 more than the Surface tablet itself, they need to get it out and the ball rolling to that the interest for the platform peaks for it to bloom and other manufacturer/partners make their own versions

the PRO has been said to be ULTRABOOK proce so expect that to be in the $700+ price range

the Nexus 7 is $199... with amazing hardware... as well as the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 so how would the RT priced at $199 be impossible
