How do you guys clean your windshield?
« on: August 29, 2014, 08:17:32 pm »
A little backgrounder sa kuwento, was in the Pampanga-Bulacan area a couple of weeks ago (unintentionally coincided with someone's speaking engagement sa isang PTA induction  ;D).  It was raining then from time to time and my windshield was I can say a bit ok.  Acceptable, like around 90 percent clean.  It had this very, very think, occasional spot of water marks then.  When we were NLEX northbound just fronting Robinsons, there was a sudden traffic.  It seems at that very light rain, a tree decided to stop standing and ended up blocking the road.  What was around us then was a truck carrying those industrial stuff and spewing thick white smoke.  Another was a cement mixer truck.  It was raining lightly then and windshield was ok.  After the obstruction was removed and traffic flowed smoothly it started to rain hard hence, had to switch the wiper from slow to fast, that is when it appeared the very thin water marks "magically" became like thicker and made driving very hard in heavy rains.

Now, a friend tried this 60 / 40 water and white vinegar concoction to brush the spots off.  It seems to do the trick, however slowly.  My question is is that approach safe or will it eventually "scratch" my windshield?  Im seeing swirl marks amd i dont know if it is from previous cleaning or because of the diy cleaning method now,  How do you guys clean your windshield of water marks?  I've seen ads online for windshield cleaning, however, them being in the metro area it is not a viable option now given I'm around 1.5 hours away.

Thanks for the inputs.  I don't know if windex is available here.  Will try to do the water-vinegar thing again.  I only use water with a bit of shampoo mixed for the windshield sprinkler.   ;D

It gets annoying kasi having blurred windshield.

Related to the topic, what do you have for your wipers?  As gardov mentioned, and I do agree, the wiper also plays an important role in the visibility of the windshield.  However, I think the wiper, in my case now, is just a small percentage of the problem.  Mine is relatively new, although I didn't pay attention to the brand.  Just asked for a replacement wiper and had it installed too.  Likewise, I've read about wiper stands, who here uses one?

Coke is quite useful for washing windshield. The acid in Coke gets off road grime. Rinse off with hose. Done. Windshield looks like new.

I'm sure the coke thing will work, however, I am not comfortable to use it in my windshield.  I worry coke is "too harsh" and will leave scratches in the windshield since I use a soft toothbrush to brush off stubborn water stains.

Scrub and rain clear, I'm assuming the scrub part is to clean your windshield and the rain clear is to make water bead or just slide in your windshield?  If that is the case, maganda yan.  Will have to look around at wala blade at concorde dito.

As to me leaving it as is, medyo mahirap yun dahil pag heavy downpour eh it is really hard to see what is infront of you.

Dahil sa sudden emergency kahapon  ;D , biglang napadpad ng mall kaya bigla ring napabili ng express glass restorer (ata name nun)  Will try this later at medyo mabagal ang progress sa water-vinegar mixture.  Will give feedback afterwards.

Sorry for the bump if this seems to be an old one.
