why should the philippines buy tanks? who are it's enemies?

where would the tanks be used? inside metro manila?  ::laffman

see the history of the vietnam war. how much "tank power" was used compared to infantry and air. most tank battles in recent history is in WIDE spaces, e.g. iraq. is the philippines spacious enough? and ask how many tanks were damaged/destroyed by INSURGENTS' activities.

inside enemies: terrorists, rebels. do we REALLY NEED tanks? or is it better to have more capable air support (transport and firepower)?

outside enemies: other countries. and they need to cross a SEA to get to us. needs more boats. can tanks swim in water?  ;D

depends, communists/rebels are the problem..its the human, we wont stop killing each other..until we try to love/make peace with each other..but to answer about the military equipment, its like trying to make war while trying to make peace..you cant really put so much destructive power..here in the PI

example night patrol..military convoy..air surveillance..rebels planting ied..an open field would an air attack work? less collateral maybe? now try to identify the person first..but then we would need more armed/protected convoy..with air support. now put that in a civilian place..

1.ied detecting/bomb making..different story..militarity equips, then comes down to how these people make bombs..
2.intelligence

in comparing iraq..go to the suburbs..would the pnp afp do house to house search in the barangays?

at the same time were losing so many men to ambushes and ied's..add that the different groups..

tanks MBT ba??

MBT are useless sa pinas  they can emit fear but useless dahil easy target and transporting a MBT is a logistically nightmare and maintenance at ang daming lalaklaking gasolina

mas importante ang transport dahil magubat at mabundok sa pinas ang tanks can't go to mountain and can't travel to sea

and helicopters wont wipe out the entire rebel population..your not going to commit mass murder, but helicopters will help..not saying they wont. but in a suburb where there is civilians, you dont let the enemies inside. ill put this in the other thread coz this is about the equipment. tactics, winning minds are different.

last time i saw a vid ung tinira ng missile ung rebel house and kubo's. think it was in mindanao..that was isolated houses.

and in comparing vietnam i dont think so. add the new technologies..cellphones..things changed.

remember ung tinira ung cotabato ng ied..? civilians were damayed..

add that rebel sympathizers.

If they have tanks or heavy armor they can support the infantry advance much quicker and safer, with close in firepower and ground and pound the rebels.

MRAPS are good enough for us ... in the provinces you don't bring 60 ton tanks to pass 15 tons cap bridges and with the monsoon
or rain history we have this beast will be swimming. we need lots of tank transporter also since the quality of our asphalted roads is a nigthmare if you pass tanks on them , those crocs in dept of public highways will be salivating on the budget needed for repairs

Ang MBT's real advantage is heavy armor and for use in an open field or terrain like in the middle east or europe were the MBT's can manuever or confront the enemy head on.

maganda tingnan ang Main battle tank pero sa country natin hinde applicable and sa uri ng kalaban ng government natin.

yung lugar sa atin makipot! theres not enough room to manuever and sinu ang kalaban sa metro?

sa jungle warfare mahirap din gumamit ng MBT kasi yung terrain masikip and unpredictable yung lupa sa bigat nya pwede kang mabalaho! and madaming obstacles na mga puno.

and mahal pa rin ang maintenance as usual..

thats why mga APC's ang prefer ng armed forces natin na gamitin yung may mga conventional na gulong, fast to manuever on pavement and on rough terrain although it doesnt have the fire power or armor protection of the MBT'S but its enough to support and protect our ground troops from light arms.

Well the closest ar IFVs which the Philippines are acquiring from Israel its either the a Nakpakdon a heavy armored personnel or a Namer. Those two has the same weight as MBT of Thailand which has similar terrain like the Philippines they have the T-84 of the Ukranian Army.
