Toyota PH invites racing fans to Vios Cup and promises them good fun
There are those who complain that there is not much quality and well-organized car racing happening in the Philippines. Well, Toyota has heard those complaints and decided to put together a one-make race called the Vios Cup. On October 12, Saturday, Clark International Speedway is playing host to the first-of-its-kind motorsports event, featuring celebrities and motoring journalists behind the wheel of the newly launched subcompact sedan.
The grid will be made up of five celebrities (Jinno Rufino, Rhian Ramos, Aljur Abrenica, Phoemela Baranda and Fabio Ide) and seven motoring journalists (Top Gear Philippines' Botchi Santos and Jeff Reyes, The Manila Times' Brian Afuang, Manila Bulletin's Iñigo Roces, Philippine Star's James Deakin, AutoIndustriya's Vince Pornelos and Balita's Aris Ilagan). It will be a wheel-to-wheel race, not some wussy time-trial shootout.
Besides the race, spectators will be treated to performances by Oktaves and Sponge Cola, as well as a party complete with a DJ. There will also be driving exhibitions, kiddie activities, and a gathering of Toyota car clubs. The best part is that admission is free.
To get the full experience, Toyota Motor Philippines suggests you arrive at the track by 10am. See you there, guys!

Toyota 86 to serve as official safety car in Vios Cup race tomorrow
Come hell or high water (or strong typhoon, to be more specific) tomorrow, October 12, Toyota Motor Philippines is holding the promotional race for the Vios Cup at Clark International Speedway. The race will pit five celebrities against seven motoring journalists, including our very own Botchi Santos, Jeff Reyes, Brian Afuang and Aris Ilagan. Aside from the race, TMP has prepared other activities such as driving exhibitions, car-club gathering, kiddie games and a concert featuring Sponge Cola and Ely Buendia's Oktaves.
Another attraction, as far as we're concerned, is the 86 safety car wearing the Vios Cup livery. A safety car is what the race organizers use when they need to slow down the field due to an accident or poor track conditions (like strong rains). In Formula 1, they use the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as the official safety car. In these special instances, the safety car is dispatched onto the track and at the front of the pack. During this period, the cars maintain their position and are not allowed to overtake both the safety car and each other.
It's going to be fun seeing the 86 leading a dozen Vios race cars on the track. Not that we're wishing for an accident to happen or for bad weather to occur, of course.
Anyway, TMP has sent us the program of activities for tomorrow's event:
Opening parade - 2pm to 2:30pm
Heat 1 - 2:30pm to 3:15pm
Drift exhibition - 3:15pm to 4pm
Heat 2 - 4pm to 5pm
Awarding - 5pm to 6pm
Socials/entertainment - 6pm onwards
See you at the track tomorrow! Don't forget: Admission is free.
