New Phl attack choppers to have 'night fighting systems'
« on: August 02, 2013, 04:51:33 am »
MANILA, Philippines -The eight new attack helicopters to be purchased by the government will be fitted with "night fighting systems," the Department of National Defense (DND) bid and awards committee announced Tuesday.

The equipment, either electro-optical or infra red system, are used by air crews in detecting or spotting targets at night time.

The DND also said these new attack helicopters must be capable of flying at speeds of 120 knots (around 138 miles per hour) while carrying a 2,000 payload.

They should also be able to cruise for two and half hours and should be multi-engine in type.

Earlier, the DND said the choppers will also be equipped with laser designators capable of firing laser-guided rockets.

Four international helicopter manufacturers have participated in the pre-bid conference of the DND's attack helicopter program.

These firms are the Boeing Co., Eurocopter Group, AgustaWestland NV and MD Helicopters Inc.

All four aerospace companies have acquired the required bidding documents.

The DND attack helicopter program has a budget of P3.44 billion and will be sourced from the national budget and the AFP Modernization Act Trust Fund of 2000.

The DND said the new helicopters must have full night operation capability and complete weapon systems aside from integrated logistics support package.

Hindi muna ako maniniwala hanggat hindi nakakabili ang Pinas. Gawa muna bago ngawa...
Dark for fear of failure an inner gloom as wide as an eye and fermenting roiling hate death grip in my veins unveiling rancid petals flowering forth foul nectar the space between a blink and a tear ...death blooms...

The US can sell you hardware at very attractive prices. However, when a bolt is lost, you can not fly the chopper anymore because the US State Department might not give the export clearance.  Hence, if the US feels that you have started to stop being their puppets, they would start withholdings supply of spare parts and when that happens, you have practically no hardware to fight your enemies. The second most important factor is the assurance of spares and armaments - for practice and for actual combat.  Having familiarity with hardware like using their air-to-surface missiles require a lot of target practice to perfect their accuracy and kill potential. What we do not want to happen is similar to the PNP giving the police their respective Glock pistols with only four magazines when what is receipted is for a much higher number with no additional rounds for practice to get the feel and familiarity with the hardware.

In my opinion yan ang nakikita ko kapag we deal with US, masyado kang nakatali sa kanila...

Typical US Agreement kahit na may pambili ka or you can afford to buy the best, what they will sell to you is water level specs and madaming string attached between the buyer and Manufacturer / US government.

and kapag may mangyari na hinde maging favor sa US, they will hold their support sa end user.

Look the story of F-14 development program in Iran when the Iran Government transition broke out, The US even offer money to anyone who can destroy the F-14 aircraft or its radar system etc. Naging Adversary na kasi..

Kaya for me in my opinion, hinde tayo dapat mag rely lang palagi sa US ng tulong.

yan ang kaibahan ng US sa mga Western countries.

madaming magandang offer for sure ang mga western military manufacturer.

and for them its all purely business they will give the best including support for as long as you can afford it.

im not an anti US BTW.

mod paki tanggal ng pic..altough the pic is showing an AH(attack helicopter), its incorrect, the helicopter shown is a russian one not any of those mentioned above. and boeing doesnt have an attack helicopter!

the govt should prevent rebels acquiring anti air missiles/manpads.

stop sticking your finger the u.s. ass. yes they have superior equipment. the issue here is acquiring at the budget.
all they can do is give us surplus. even that is an issue for the cost of repairs.
