War with MILF or Peace talks?
« on: October 20, 2011, 08:26:00 pm »
MANILA, Philippines - (4:50 p.m.) President Benigno Aquino III thumbed down on Thursday calls to wage all-out war against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in the wake of Tuesday’s clash between Army Special Forces troops and rebels in Basilan that left 19 soldiers, four of them junior officers, dead and 14 others wounded.

But Western Mindanao Command chief Lieutenant General Raymundo Ferrer said he has ordered pursuit operations against the MILF and Abu Sayyaf fighters involved in the clash even as social workers said the fighting had displaced thousands of residents of Al Barka town.

The MILF, which acknowledged losing seven fighters, said it would ask the International Monitoring Team, which is led by Malaysia and is tasked to oversee the implementation of a ceasefire agreement between the Moro rebels and government, to investigate the Basilan clash, amid reports that the fighting had spread to Zamboanga Sibugay and that the military continued to mount aerial strikes on rebel positions in Basilan.

Aquino said while he condoles with the families of the slain troops, it would be “irresponsible” to jump to conclusions and launch a war against the Moro rebels, although he acknowledged the need to beef up the Armed Forces of the Philippines to ensure it does not suffer such large battle losses  again.

it ain't over. . .till its over

Voices from fellow Espiya from ARMM Please
« Reply #17 on: October 21, 2011, 05:56:40 am »
I am really interested in the opinion of people coming from ARMM.

I do not anymore ask for the whole of Mindanao because at work there are plenty of Davao and CDO born colleagues.  Majority are for "disciplining lawless elements and enforcing the rule of law."  That is my take on what they all said and let me make it clear that they were very careful in what they say, very diplomatic and generalized themes.

On a personal note we have family friends who belong to a traditional village chief caste (Datu) in Maguindanao.  They are siding with the MILF.

We know of Maranao who wants out of ARMM and into the mainstream Filipino society, but they do it quietly.  Yung congressman nila I think against ARMM and MILF din.

Which is almost impossible to happen.

Dahil ang gusto nila ay magkaroon sila ng sariling Autonomy. with the help of warlords like Mummar Gaddafi which is one of the main funders of MILF and Osama Bin Laden whom helped established Abu Sayyaf.

American soldiers will pulling out of Libya this Dec since patay na si Gaddafi and nag sisimula ng mag establish ng bagong government ang Libya. Maybe it's time for the Philippines and AFP to ask for help sa US na mag padala na din ng mga sundalo at support airstrikes para matapos na ang gera with the MILF and Abu Sayyaf. Opinion ko lang naman  toast::

Totally agree.

"You are not going to get peace with millions of armed men.  The chariot of peace cannot advance over a road littered with cannon.  ~David Lloyd George"

"NOT IN MY WATCH!", is that a sign of WAR?

Even in yourself you don't see peace and you want a peace talk? How would the people think about your peace talk? A true leader thinks about how to achieve its idea, not how to contradict its own idea with his own dilemma.

Before declaring war, a country must assess its resources and economic ramifications....War is the greatest economic destructive activity any nation can do... A single bomb dropped by our bomber planes can cost 250,000 easy.... a mortar shell can cost 20,000....artillery shells costing 35,000.... how many of these can be consumed by the military? for how many days, weeks, months or years? How many millions of gallons of oil will be consumed? naturally, resources are shifted from the ordinary citizens to the military.... and all of these costs have no ROI.... this will result to very big budget deficits.... the government may be forced to increase tax, increase borrowing...which may result to food shortages, oil shortages, limited civil liberties, and mass unemployment.... there are many more consequences depending on the severity of military spending.... the war will be paid by us citizens....and possibly we may have to utitilize the resources of our next generation to compensate for the deficits of war and rebuilding.... if the majority is agreeable with the consequences, then let's declare war!

no amount of money in this planet can return even a single life in those 20 dead soldiers. pero kahit pisong halaga lang ng justice eh million ang katumbas para sa mga namatayan at mamamatayan pa. sabi nga eh damn if you do damn if you don't eh di gawin na lang naten

by declaring an all out war doesn't serve justice to the dead.... it satisfies the the hateful feeling of the living but never of the dead... war claims additional victims...and it spawns ever increasing aggression from both sides.... but that is not the bigger picture.... the bigger picture is the economy.... By investing in a dead-end investment such as war, we may win the war with MILF, but there will be nothing left for us to eat... Aren't we already complaining the hardships of life? Let's worsen it by waging war during an economic crisis on a global scale.... When the stomach starts to grumble, we may start eating bullets of our own....
