in my humble opinion, it is not about making sure we win but at least we try fighting.  alangan naman kasing modern warfare na ang gamit ng ibang bansa eh bolos and kris ang pangtatapat natin sa kanila.  but if i would be the one thinking about the modernization, we have to invest that amount into something else, say more weapons for the infantry.  nakakaawa ang mga ground troops natin if you really look at their armaments.  sobrang luma na nga, wala pa maayos na maintenance.  tapos darating si ganitong opisyal, kasama driver niya.  si driver papasok sa armory tapos magtatanong kung asaan mga bagong gamit.  ituturo sa kanya tapos kukursunada siya ng barrel, etc - ipapalit sa gamit niya.  yung custodian ng armory wala magagawa kasi nga kasama ni opisyal yung nangursunada sa piyesa.  kaya kung may titingin talaga ng mga piyesa sa mga kagamitan ng mga sundalo, hayyyy, karamihan, napalitan na.  kung hindi man mga opisyal ang may gawa, mismong mga ground troops (infantry) may pakana.  lumapit si kumpare niya at gusto "mag-upgrade" ng piyesa at medyo pudpod na yung dati niya.  si infantry ay sasabak sa patrolya kukuha ng m16 na may numero sa may butt   - habang nasa patrolya, kakalasin at pagpapalit ang kailangang piyesa.

i say let us invest in other things other than those fighter planes.  more arms for our troops, more ordnance as well as equipment.  mas mararamdaman ang epekto niyan kaysa sa dalawang planes lng na sa pagdaan ng panahon ay hindi rin maalagaan at malamang sa hindi ay mag-crash lng at masira.

naku sa dami ba naman ng intsik sa mundo at sa galing nila sa pangagaya.. me news nga na meron silang nagaya na jet fighter ng u.s tapos, nagproduce sila marami.. ay naku kaya panila siguro i-mass produce un .. ung pirated na dvd nga na mass produce nila jet fighter pa!!

I agree ... its not win or loss but we can make them pay a hard price that they will not think again of attacking us ... even if we slay them by the millions we can not win but can they afford to face thier people if too many of thier soldiers die .... this is the case of vietnam against the US ..

It's a good start. Ok na yong MiG-29 at mas affordable pero malamang punta pa Russia ang mga pilots na magpalipad nito for trainings. Iba kasi ang angas ng isang bansa kung may modern airforce jet sya. Look at Singapore, maliit syang bansa pero may squadrons of F-15 & F-16 ang RSAF nila, (see pics):




Malaki ang territory natin kasi so dapat lang na may modern fighter jets tayo to intercept enemy planes or ships na mag-trespass sa ating teritoryo.

Sana makabili na at baka mag-sale kasi malapit ng pasko.

well thats a good thing but for now its not the solution...why?!.let's say were acquiring two MIG-29's or F-18's for our airforce..whats this two jets can do on a actual combat mission against a squadron of J-10's of china or surface flotilla of chinese navy, i hate to say this..our government never learned there lesson,still stuck in the "always pa pogi points in media"..if i were the head of the AFP i would not announce any military procurment to keep the enemy guessing on what we have, and our generals should be adapting the new methodology of warfare implementation and in hindsight if we acquire one of those planes?..it will need trainings of pilots and a good support system (ground crew,maintenance,weapons and etc) to keep it airworthy...what we need is development our indenginous hardware like developing our own naval units(im not a pro-navy or what) but let's face it, we our island nation first thing we need to have a flotilla of surface warship that will project our presence in the area of responsibility(thats what chinese navy doing right now projecting there self not just here in the south china but also in major water bodies of the world (ex.they have frigate in forward deployment in the coast of somalia were piracy is rampant) and built our own early warning defense system (acquisition of radars that will be deployed in the near the coastline areas backup with our anti-ship/anti-air defense system) once we have this kind of system is implemented we can start defending our turf..its kinda hard to do that if your blind in the dark (you know what i mean in here) once this system is in place already thats were the airworks begins for our airforce by upgrading our air assets that can supoort both air superiority and inderction attacks both land and sea and more training of special armed forces of all 3 branches (specially the marines and navy) and for the army scout rangers the more we have them in dispossal the better we can defend startegically

The Philippines is far better off investing it's money on a viable transition program so as to enable it's air force to be ready to transition to more modern aircraft. This means investing on quality training aircraft to maintain the edge pilots until we can afford to buy, operate and maintain 4th generation Multi-role Fighters (MRF).

For the time being, our main priority is in procuring longe range patrol aircraft, sea watch radars and naval patrol assets to harden our presence in territory we already control.

I agree on this one... And even if we have 2 and need natin mag intercept di din naman kadali un since walang support plane ung mga MRF na natin. Waste of money... Yun na kasi ang trend ng dogfighting.. Di na po tayo WW2 wherein fighters can go face to face... War will never be fair battle..
