Newly-acquired PHL warship enters country's economic zone

The Philippine Navy's newly acquired warship entered Philippine waters Wednesday afternoon and is expected to dock at a Philippine port this coming week.

Navy officials said the BRP Gregorio del Pilar entered the Philippines' exclusive economic zone around 1 p.m., radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr. reported.

But the Navy said that while the ship entered Philippine territory ahead of schedule, it will have to be repainted and fitted with equipment first before it can be used.

The ship, acquired from the United States, had made visits to Hawaii and Guam on its voyage to the Philippines.
....

It described the ship as "a high endurance cutter with a close-in weapons system" and features a helicopter flight deck with a retractable hangar, giving it capabilities for rescue operations and maritime law enforcement. — LBG, GMA News

PH's new warship arrives

The government has acquired the BRP Gregorio del Pilar, a warship named after a young Filipino hero. It was first docked at the South Harbor in Manila after sailing for 33-days from the U.S. to the Philippines. This is the country's first Hamilton class cutter warship. Its machines were overhauled and refurbished and officially replaces the Raja Humabon, a Cannon-class destroyer escort. (Photos by Mike Alquinto/ NPPA Images)

mga fellow spymates were going off the topic here... ;D a brief history about the newly acquired ship by our navy, this ex-hamilton class was already 40yrs. in service in US coast guard, if you were to ask me if it's a good investment by our navy..i would say both yes and no. why?..the service life of the ship is already 40yrs.old so maintenance wise it would be too costly for the make it seaworthy and why yes!?..at least the government are not backing down easily in terms of defending what is ours and it fits the bill for the navy right now.this mess should have been avoided when past administrations took a second look on this and exploited it silently by developing our naval force and having a forward deployment of troops on the claimed island..but what they need they just neglected it and here's china exploited the shortcoming of the government while their mouths are yapping about the territorial claims they were also busy in deploying troops in securing the said island pretty much an example of it is that woody island (part of the claimed island over the spratly's) they invested on infrastructure (they build an airstrip on the island) and naval command post for patrolling the area  and securing the said island and not to mention the island has anti-aircraft/ship defense system and an early warning radar systems with that they already had headstart on it

if i were to be the commander of chief of the armed forces i would classify them by class and named each individual ships by the philippine hero...(ie.. example Rajah Humabon Class - Jose Rizal <--this will be the lead ship for her class, i would say a cruiser type ships and etc.) just my two cents
