inton:
totoo magagaling sila... maraming good job, marami ding palpak.. to sum it up, di umuusad.. parang tug of war ang direction.. ganito ang Pilipinas kasi gani ang gusto ng UP, walang majority. Proud ba kayo nito?

--- Quote from: Master Dave on October 09, 2008, 08:03:46 am ---Kahit kaninong Pilipino nyo itanong, sasabihin na UP ang numero unong unibersidad sa 'Pinas.

I took my Masters in UP but i did not like the system. I came from a State University as well which is very similar to UP (Mindanao State University), and i swear the system in that school is far worse. When i took a job, i am paired up with a UP graduate. my boss gave a preferential treatment to her simply because she is from UP, even if she is not a performer and she did not graduated top of her class (which i did). bottomline is, UP is overrated. sure there are good students from UP but not all people from UP are as brilliant as one thinks. student factor pa din yan. pero syempre, angat ang UP sa ibang state universities. ano nga ba naman ang panama ng PUP or ng PLM sa UP. hehehe
i think di dapat icompare ang UP sa ADMU at LaSalle. im taking my MBA at Ateneo and they dont even care which is better. i doubt if La Salle even noticed the difference. saka parang di level ang comparison kung ipagpipilitan ng UP ang sarili sa circle. hehehe

b0ler0:
Keyjay, your experience merely shows that the person you were paired with - who happened to be a UP graduate - is overrated.  We cannot say that UP itself, as an institution, is overrated.  That would be a hasty generalization, wouldn't it?

You think that Ateneo and La Salle don't even notice UP?  That's correct.  They're too busy with basketball.  :D

Kidding aside, I received my AB degree from UP.  I received my JD from Ateneo.  When did you take your masterals?  We may have met each other along the hallowed halls of that ROckwell campus.

Just like you, however, I can speak for both schools, and I can say that I have a completely different experience from yours.  It is common for members of the academe, from any school, to take some pot shots at other institutions from time to time.  Fr, Joaquin Bernas, the Consti I and II teacher, for example, calls UP the "bastion of immorality."  All in good fun however.  Fact is, it's normal for any member of any academe to claim his school is the best and the rest are competing for leftovers.

It's called school pride.  It's called "love your own."  In your stay at the Ateneo, you may have never met an instructor who had enough bravado to use his wit to poke fun at other schools.  But this doesn't mean that they refuse to compare their school with other schools.

Pride, after all, is a product of comparison.  How can you be proud of something that falls pale in comparison with others, right?

You're right, UP cannot be compared to Ateneo or La Salle or Mindanao State College or De Guzman Institute of Technology.

UP is in a class of its own.  :D
