safe ba ang mga kaespiya natin dyan.. madami na daw namatay.. MANILA, Philippines - A large group of gunmen harassed a far-flung village in Maluso town, Basilan province before dawn Saturday, leaving a person dead and several others wounded.
Police identified the fatality as a certain Tawasil Idjiran. Two of the villagers wounded were Usman Assan and Nonoy dela Cruz.
Investigators said at least 70 gunmen, allegedly members of the Abu Sayyaf Group and some former Moro Islamic Liberation Front guerillas, harassed Barangay Tubigan around 5:30 a.m.
They said the gunmen just fired at the villagers without any provocation, and then fled.
Several policemen and military personnel have been deployed to the village to track down the bandits.
The harassment took place almost 10 hours after the rescue of 2 Chinese nationals Michael Tan and Oscar Lu from suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf, a dreaded kidnap group in the southernmost provinces of Mindanao.
The 2 Chinese nationals were rescued in nearby Sumisip town around 8 p.m. Friday. The victims were abducted last November 10, 2009 freom a plywood factory in Maluso town. --
