FORMER world champion Brandon Rios failed the post-fight drug test administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) in his 12-round welterweight showdown with Manny Pacquiao in Macau three weeks ago.
The 27-year-old Rios tested positive for the banned stimulant Methylhexaneamine, a form of dietary supplement but also considered a performance-enhancing drug.
Rios lost by a shutout unanimous decision against Pacquiao during the November 24 fight held at the Cotai Arena of the Venetian Hotel and Resort Casino.
Ring Magazine earlier reported Rios’ failed drug test.
VADA head Dr. Margaret Goodman confirmed the failed drug test of Rios, who once reigned as world lightweight champion.
“Mr. Rios did not successfully complete the VADA program,†Goodman told ESPN.
Rios though denied he ever took banned substansces.
He likewise boasted during the post-fight press conference that he wasn't hurt by the 34-year-old Filipino boxing icon, but was caught off-hand by Pacquiao's speed and quickness.
Both Rios and Pacquiao agreed to random drug testing during the buildup for the fight.
