2x256mb(512mb) DDR 266 + 2x512mb(1gb) DDR 400, bad idea?
« on: June 08, 2007, 01:00:58 pm »
i tried it kanina by adding my spare 1gb DDR400 to my 512mb DDR266 thats on my system and CMOS detected 1.5gb ram BUT everytime it was to boot to my OS it restarted, i tried numerous times to reshufle postions but to no avail, restart at OS boot, now i tried to leave my 1gb and it worked and booted up to windows which i did not expect considering i only have a 1.6ghz P4 nonHT(100mhz frequency) due to the fact 100mhz freq cpu uses DDR266 but it works, so i tried putting back the 512mb but still restart perior to OS boot so i took out the 512mb, after that i rearranged my ram from single to dual mode, and again it works

so has anyone had any problems with using rams with different frequencies? like i did?

in my experience, its a pretty bad idea. its a good thing the modo didn't black out. but for sure, there is some damage on your ram or worse, the motherboard itself. i expermented on an old ECS mobo before, and it blacked out.

bad idea pare! 4 slots para sa RAM mo. dapt all RAM capacity is equal. if sa isang slot my 512 na. in the 3 other slots dapt 512 din at the same speed. sa una lang yan ga2na. later on it will brick.

pwede ata iba ibang size like mix and matching 2x 128mb and 1 256mb pero bawal talaga ata diffrent speeds dapat yung 1 gig nalang linagay mo at tinangal mo yung 512mb

most of the replies seem to be only following the lead of the first reply

thats where compatability issues come in. the different memory modules may not be compatible with each other

however, if they were compatible, there is no problem with that. you can mix a ddr266 with a ddr400 module. its not recommended because of the compatability issue, but once you find modules that are compatible, you should have no problems (though expect the ddr400 to function at ddr266 speed only)

i put in another 512mb DDR400 and works like a breeze, all 4 slots work on a DUAL config, and as i expected speed was pulled down to DDR266
