Topic: 512+256 ram.. can i play games smoothly?

ei, im planning to buy a 512 memory for my pc to add up to my 256 ram. 1 gig is too expensive for me. Is having a 768 ram good? am i have a gud tym playing? i just want to have a meduim quality or near-high quality when playing games.... thanx in advance...

u will encounter problems, kc its actually more advisable to use 2 ram modules(SPECIALLY if u plan to use ur mother board's DUAL CHANNEL CAPABLITY for better RAM performance and better PC use and Gameplay) that are:

1) same BRAND(but in most cases not really a big deal but some ram brands dnt play nice with each other specially the GENERIC ones)
2) same TYPE (SDRAM, DDR 1/2 )
3) same SIZE 128+128, 256+256, 512+512, 1gb+1gb, 2gb+2gb and so on
4) same SPEED (DDR266/333/400 and up)

immediate problems will not be experienced, its a longrun issue coz of the unbalanced amount of memory ur MoBo and CPU utilizes if u use different ram modules, its in the life span of ur hardware

it will work pero "properly" nde guarantee un, if u read ur MoBo manual on the RAM protion it advices u how to properly install and use RAM and tells u what i wrote above, system instability usually ang problems specially with applications(and usually games) that demand a shitload of ram

what xtian is saying is mostly only applicable to the new mobos

you are using an old mobo, so you should not have any problems with that

also that instability thing is just more of marketing talk. in actual (and experience), it doesn't matter much. your mobo is not designed to be brand specific or such

it is just suggested that to avoid problems, its best to use same brand, same frequency, etc. though, it doesn't follow that if you use other brand and other fequency, you will automatically have problems. it also doesn't follow that you will suffer in the long run

yup...tama po si sir bod.
sighting from experience, gagana naman ang 512 + 256 mb (I suggest you use the same frequency). kasi sa isang pc ko ganito ang spec and there seem to be no problem I have encountered so far. (If you asked the spec of the pc it's P4 1.7 64mb video card(geforce) and yes 768 mb RAM)

i have a kingston pc400 512 ddr and a generic pc400 256 ddr installed in my DIMM.. no probs naman, been using it for the past 2 years..

It will help a lot if you UP the video card.
Also make sure not to run any other apps in the background while playing games to maximize processor use.

I think, wala namang magiging problema.. ang issue lang eh they both will run at 333mhz so syang lang ung pc400 mo.. brands dont matter at all.

ang sagot jan ay yup... 768 is way better dan 256.. kahit pa na ddr400 payan... so ok lang..
