Ateneo de Davao boycotts Cebu Pacific

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) said it will never purchase tickets from Cebu Pacific again, alleging the airline's personnel neglected passengers after the plane overshot the runway at the Davao International Airport on Sunday evening.

In a letter to Cebu Pacific's management dated June 3, ADDU president Fr. Joel E. Tabora S.J. said the university has been a loyal customer of the Gokongwei-led airline, but the incident on Sunday "proved you do not deserve our patronage." The letter was posted on ADDU's official Twitter account (@ADDU_Official) on Monday afternoon.

Tabora said he ordered the university stop buying tickets from Cebu Pacific, "in protest against the insensitivity and ineptness of the manner in which the Cebu Pacific passengers were ignored and neglected by your personnel last night in an hour of emergency."

Tabora said the airline personnel did not give "humane"assistance to passengers, nor were any instructions or "calming words" given.

"It was only after 27 minutes in a smoked cabin that the passengers were allowed to leave the plane by coming down emergency slides. Twenty-seven minutes however without appropriate communications is entirely too long," he said.

"I am also told that once the passengers were finally in the airport, no one came to talk to them until after one and a half hours."

The ADDU president explained he is "incensed" not because of the accident, but because of the airline's "manifest human failure."

Tabora pointed out that Cebu Pacific showed it lacked concern for its passengers, and its staff lacked the training for an emergency situation.

"When you put people in the care of people, you endanger lives. Under these circumstances, we will generally recommend a boycott of Cebu Pacific. You do not deserve customers," Tabora said.

A Cebu Pacific Airbus A320 plane overshot the runway at the Davao International Airport as it landed during a rainstorm on Sunday evening. Cebu Pacific said all 165 people on board were safe.

However, the Davao International Airport was closed on Monday as authorities removed the plane from the runway. The airport is expected to reopen at 8 p.m. tonight.

Bloody Priest taking advantage for the incident for free media exposure for their non-profit institutions whose using the name of GOD for money.  Not a word to thank GOD despite what happened their greediness didn't stop abruptly.

We dont know the reason why it took them nearly half an hour to decide for emergency exit. Whether their's protocol to be followed or just a simple logic "If it's safe to get out or not?" We don't know everything what's their communications between the pilot to the control tower, emergency personnels, firefighters and medics in the ground.  The Priest was not there so it's very unreliable all his accusations.  Exaggerated I must say it didnt mention they didnt get help but delayed and slow reactions from airport authorities and to Cebupac.

To the Cebupac an eye opener for them to overhaul their preparedness capability in times of emergency situations.

We thank the Lord no one hurt seriously and no life lost.

Ang alam ko may pari na taga addu sa flight na yun.

Tama lang na mag react sila ng ganun.  Fact of the matter is, it took 27 minutes before cebu pac COMMUNICATED with their customers. Not good on a smoke filled plane.

yes we can say this was a big PR move for ADDU to get attention but lets not forget this is also giving more attention to the Safety Precautions and SOPs that airlines should have to protect passengers/customers

Crappy service na kasi ang CEBUPAC. Still, we have the choice right? we can move to another airline and enjoy or see the latest especially a less crappy, like PAL :D

But I think this time it was pushed harder on the down side. Para sa mga emergency situations like one, dapat labs agad ang pasahero. Anything can happen in the first 30~60 secs.

Still, let us be thankful na hindi natunaw ang eroplano.

But Gokongwei saying something like... we can learn from this experience.." ..is just a B-S. sa susunod sana na mangyari ang banyan, try niya sumakay kasama buong pamilya niya.

27minutes before sila pinababa, but after that, it took another 1 hour and half plus before someone from cebu pacific actually talked to the passengers

yung 27minutes ang pinaka stupid move talaga on their part, nagkaron na nga ng aberya and there was smoke from the airplane tapos ayaw pa pababain ang mga pasahero. looks like the crew and other employees of the airline as well as the airport were really not trained on how to handle emergency situations. malamang kaya natagalan kasi tumawag pa sila sa higher ups nila asking for instructions

as seen in the interviews from ANC, GMA, etc at the time of the interview there was still nothing concrete on what cebu pacific was doing. yung mga pasahero na ininterview hindi pa rin alam kung ano gagawin ng cebu pacific, wala pa raw sinasabi sa kanila

fact is that the response of the airline and airport management was very slow. nagalit pa nga si Mayor Sara dahil yung pinapunta na 911 ambulance sa airport to assist hindi pinapasok, they refused assistance. to the point that the city government of davao will file a formal complaint with the CAAP (or probably nakafile na today since kagabi pa yung balita)

I was/am actually looking to book a flight for Manila this September but with this incident, I guess I will try out zestair and Pal options instead

this what you get boarding a cheap passenger  plane marami at matagal ng may reklamo ang cebu pacific and yet sumasakay pa sila ang daming alternative na airlines

nakapagtataka dito wala silang emergency protocol na SOP yun sa mga airlines

huh? bakit cebu pac lang ang pinag pipili-an? meron namang airphil, zest air or tiger/sea air. Cebu pacific doesnt give you the cheapest flights. more often it is tiger/sea air. istrikto pa ng cebu pacific. kelangan 45 mins. talga before boarding dapat andun na eh minsan daming tao sa check-inn counter and usually flight is delayed. then there is this unqestionable crappy service :)

well, the priest's reaction was a bit OA, considering that Mr. John G. is one is their biggest donors. Really can't react much as to what transpired there since I also have FA friends from that airline too, so maybe some of our co-spies from the aviation industry can put some light into what probably happened there

as if, ateneo de davao lang ang major client ng cebu pac. mas ok nga ngayon kasi sigurado doble ingat na sila ngayon.
