Cable guy allegedly stabs, tries to rape customer
MANILA, Philippines – Police are hunting down a cable repairman who is being accused of trying to rape and stabbing a female customer.
Muntinlupa Police identified the suspect as Rommel Mendoza.
According to SkyCable, they received a call from the 35-year-old victim at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Mendoza, a repairman from the cable company’s third party service provider Erat Tech, was then sent to the woman’s apartment in Muntinlupa.
Mendoza allegedly threatened the victim to give him money and stabbed her 7 times.
He then tried to rape the victim before escaping.
The victim is now recovering at Asian Hospital.
In a statement released Friday, SkyCable said it is saddened by the incident and stressed that it does not condone such acts.
"We received news yesterday that one of our subscribers is in the hospital due to an alleged attempted rape by one of our third party service providers. We are saddened to know of such incident. We do not condone such acts and we firmly believe that the individual who committed this heinous act should face all legal consequences after undergoing the necessary judicial process,†the cable firm said.
The company also said it will look into its processes to ensure the safety of its customers, noting that the suspect is not an employee of SkyCable.
“We truly understand the sensitivities of allowing third party service providers to enter our homes. Rest assured that we will further strengthen our internal processes to ensure the utmost safety of our subscribers.â€
“We are praying for our subscriber’s speedy recovery and we are hoping for the early resolution of this case to give her justice,†SkyCable added.
