Philippine Government forces intercepted at least eighteen Chinese vessels after entering into Philippine territory Monday, December 9. The vessels were spotted near small islands in Zamboanga.

“The interception of these Chinese vessels in Philippine territorial waters is part of our active and vigilant campaign in protecting our sovereignty. This is also part of the anti-illegal fishing efforts to curb the wanton disregard in sea ad environmental laws,” Philippine Army said as reported in a regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.

Dozens of Chinese fishermen are now in custody of Philippine government while their fishing vessels were handed to a Naval base in Zamboanga City while investigation is in progress.

According to the report, these Chinese fishermen in eighteen vessels claimed they were on the way to China from Indonesia but due to Typhoon Ruby they wanted to seek shelter.

Upon inspection by government authorities, tons of fishes were found on Chinese vessels.
