Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija (DWDD) – The Army Artillery Regiment’s (AAR) 7th Field Artillery (155mm Howitzer) Battalion (7FAB) finally moved to Central Mindanao after it has formally handed-over its 105mm howitzer assets to the recently activated 8th Field Artillery (105mm Howitzer) Battalion (8FAB) in a simple ceremony presided by the Regiment Commander of AAR, Brigadier General Leandro A Loyao III AFP on November 29, 2014 at Barangay Cabatangan, Zamboanga City.

The 7FAB, with its Battalion Commander, Lt Col Ferdinand Geminic P Ramirez, is an over-sized artillery unit with the biggest firepower assets and it is providing general support reinforcing (GSR) fires to the operating government troops in Western and Central Mindanao.

“With the recent activation of 8FAB which primarily supports troops in Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-tawi (ZamBaSulTa), we can now focus our reinforcing fire support to units in Central Mindanao like the 1stand 6th Infantry Divisions and other government troops operating in the said areas”, said Ramirez.

The 8FAB, under Lt Col Jeffrey A Cabansay recently occupied Basilan Province.

Loyao told Ramirez and Cabansay that the high expectations from them are not only from the ground commanders in the area but also directly from the AFP Chief of Staff, “We are seen as the deliverer of hope in winning this battle or any battles. If history may speak itself, indeed, we have helped won many battles. Thus, we have nowhere to go but forward and prove the worth of their trust and confidence in us.”

Loyao also reminded the troops to always carry on with them the oath of excellence and the image of a disciplined soldier, “When there is no request for fire support, maintain the gunnery exercises in order to enhance the skills of our personnel. Likewise, ensure to give utmost respect to the people and the cultures and continually help them through Bayanihan activities.”

AAR, a highly technical unit, now has a total of eight artillery battalions deployed strategically nationwide to support the government troops who are securing the communities.
