However, several watchdogs and government sectors including the senate questions PNP’s decision to acquire jeeps from India.
One reason for questioning the procurement is the ability of the manufacturer to provide post procurement services.
Five hundred sixty jeeps are initially acquired to complete approximately 1500 units of brand-new police jeeps. Bidding for another 1,021 units is underway.
Senator Grace Poe, chair of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, asked Philippine National Police chief Director General Alan Purisima to explain on the said procurement. “We are requesting the information in exercise of the Senate’s oversight function and to forestall or prevent lengthy deliberations on this concern.â€
Mahindra is expected to enter Philippine market anytime soon. Its first showroom in the country will be located at Pasay City. Eurobrands Distributor Inc. – distributor of BMW, Kia and Peugeot in the country – is the company responsible for Mahindra’s entry in the Philippines.
Mahindra has been supplying police transport for India and Sri Lanka.
Philippine National Police said that one of the reason for choosing the Indian automaker is the torque. PNP will also conduct drive testing from Mania to Baguio to check for power and endurance prior to complete delivery of 560 police jeeps.
