C.M. Punk Signs With UFC
« on: December 07, 2014, 01:17:50 am »
First it was Brock Lesnar. This time around, it's former WWE Triple Crown champion C.M. Punk who is switching from a four-sided ring to the Octagon.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2291817-cm-punk-will-fight-in-the-ufc-former-wwe-champion-announces-at-ufc-181

Punk would've been seen in the UFC earlier had WWE chairman and CEO  Vince McMahon allowed him to accompany former middleweight contender Chael Sonnen to the cage at UFC On Fox 2 in January 2012. But McMahon had misgivings over the violent nature of the UFC and forbade Punk from appearing in the mixed martial arts organization.

Punk left WWE in January of this year after several disagreements with McMahon (which were legally settled). He has since stated that his departure was due primarily to health reasons.

Dweizz is correct.  He knows what he's talking about.

One of the reasons why Phil Brooks became discontented in his most recent run with the WWE was because he felt the company didn't allow him to take the time off he needed to heal from a variety of injuries he sustained in the ring.  As Punk himself enumerated in his tell-all interview at Colt Cobana's podcast...

- A concussion suffered at Royal Rumble 2014.  WWE medical asked him to undergo a test which he passed, but WWE medical still felt he had a concussion and said that Punk should take further tests.  Punk wanted WWE medical to just say he had a concussion and be done with it, because their tests were being proven worthless.

- An elbow injury which required surgery prior to Wrestlemania 29.  But Punk was asked to drop the title to the Rock at Royal Rumble 2013 to set up the Rock-Cena match.  Thereafter, he still wasn't given a break, something which he didn't complain much about at that time because he was offered a match against the Undertaker.  He had elbow surgery after Wrestlemania 29, but was asked to come back 2 months later for a PPV, when Punk wanted to come back by Summerslam to allow his injury to heal.

- A broken pelvis he suffered from Ryback's botched table spot in late 2013.

- a rib injury he suffered from Ryback's stiff kicks late in 2013.

- A concussion he suffered from Ryback's stiff style in late 2011.

-  Strained ACL, torn MCL, torn meniscus, torn PCL in the match against Undertaker at Wrestlemania 29.  None needed surgery, only time to heal.  But he was only given 2 months off which included the recovery from his elbow surgery.

- A Staph infection in 2014 which he said almost killed him, yet WWE refused to acknowledge it as something major.

There are more, though they weren't thoroughly documented in his interview.  Almost half of the 2 hours interview was spent discussing his injuries, for which he was only given - cumulatively - 3 1/2 months off in a span of 3 years.

What he was really driving at during that interview is the fact that he was in a very pathetic physical state since he came back after Wrestlemania 29.  That, together with WWE's poor management of his injuries, the creative direction of his character, the paychecks which he believed were too low for his status in the card, his growing animosity with Triple H, the WWE Network which he felt was the reason for the dwindling upsides allotted for wrestlers, and what he believed was WWE's failure to place him in the main event of a Wrestlemania.

Being fired on his wedding day is just a post facto story.  He felt bad about that, but it wasn't even the reason why he left.  It may have been the reason why he didn't come back, but it certainly wasn't the reason why he left right after the Royal Rumble this year.  Remember, the Royal Rumble was in January, and he got married only in June.

Something you should know about CM Punk, if you followed him since his days at Ring of Honor, is that he is a very difficult person to deal with.  He had a chip on his shoulder... a sense of entitlement that compelled him to rebel against the people he worked for.  He had his issues with ROH when they replaced him as head trainer of their academy.  To appease him, they placed him in a program with Samoa Joe, and then gave him the original Summer of Punk storyline.  He had his issues with TNA when the company signed Teddy Hart and failed to control his dangerous style.  And of course, he had issues with WWE.  At first, they were able to make him happy by giving him a substantial pay raise, elevating his position in the card, and agreeing to his suggestion of resurrecting the Summer of Punk storyline.  But later on, Punk wanted to headline Wrestlemania.  By "headline," he wanted to be on the last match of the program... something which he didn't get.  Hence, together with the other reasons he gave, he left.

Given his history, it's just a matter of time when Punk will have his disagreement with Dana White.

If there was a betting station for this, I am more than willing to place my money.

You can download Colt Cabana's interviews with Punk.  There are two of them, but the first is the meatier one.  Or you can just read the transcript here...

spot on explanation ni sir bolero. yan ung galing sa interview mismo. in short, binabarubal siya ng wwe management, specifically nung mga doctor ng wwe. misdiagnosed ung mga injury niya plus, kahit na hindi pa siya magaling from injury e gusto ng pagshowin.

UFC president Dana White was quick to distinguish his newest acquisition from former UFC World heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. He told ESPN:

"He wanted to fight here. He wanted to give it a shot, so we gave him an opportunity. It's not like Brock Lesnar. We're not going to throw the kitchen sink at him. Lesnar had a wrestling background. (CM Punk) going to fight a guy who is 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 -- something like that."

Meanwhile, A.J. Lee took to Twitter to comment upon her husband's new career.

Aside from "Mrs. Punk", a lot of other people weighed in on Punk's decision to step into the Octagon. Some of their comments were positive; some were negative; and some were just slightly hostile.

Don't forget C.B. Dollaway (who might consider Punk an easy win to recover from his loss to Lyoto Machida), Yoel Romero, and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza (incidentally, Romero and Souza are scheduled to meet in February next year).

The Romero - Souza match might decide who gets to face the winner of the Vitor Belfort - Chris Weidman bout.
