How to tell an authentic B16B Head?
« on: May 29, 2006, 05:34:48 pm »
Any clues on how to go about it?  I know that the engine code on those B series engine is on the block, on the tranny side.  Besides having a red valve cover, any other tell-tale sign of a geniune B16B head?  I just wanna cover my ass on this, as it is an expensive part to buy.  Thank you much. :)

yeah just the head, kinda worried that I might get a knock-off with just a red painted valve cover.  Right now, not sure where to get it.

Kinda worried that someone would sell me B16A head with the valve cover of the B16B.  From what I've read, the main difference of the B16A and B are the flow characteristic and the cam shafts.  I have looked around from these sites that import JDM engines to the states, none of them just sell heads.   I have to get the complete engine if I want the B16B head.  So for what I'm planning to do, I would need to get two engine.  That might be out of budget for me plus its not guaranteed to run.  So I am aiming lower,  ;D ;D.  I'm gonna try to get a B18C-5 and stick it in my SIR.  Should be as simple as a direct bolt-on, but we all know something always goes wrong.  I'm going to do more research on it and see what else the swap requires like axles, shift linkage, etc.  Thanks by the way for the replies  :).

I'm not looking for the B16B head anymore, too damn rare and expensive.  I'm looking for a different route now for hopping up my civic ;D.

I would love to get a B18C5 longblock, direct bolt on in the SiR  ;D ;D.  Still that engine is almost as rare as the B16B, and maybe just as expensive.

yeah it is from the Integra Type-R.  In Japan, I think its only called B18C, not really sure about that.  In the States, its B18C5 as not to confuse with B18C1 that comes with the Integra GSR.  200hp and 134ft-lbs torque would be sweet in a 2500lb car ;D.

B16B is an engine designation that came with the Civic Type-R.  The head is the part of the engine that is on the top.  That is where the intake manifold and exhaust manifold connect.

I think in Japan, the GSR and Type-R engine are designated as B18C, but we all know that a type-R and GSR are of a different beast.  I'm betting that any available B18C's in the Philippines are JDM and not USDM.

I think if I go with a B20, it will be a big money sink.  It may have more power potential than the B18C5 but I will have to source out a VTEC head, piston, block sleeve, and ECU to get it running right.  So for right now, just to keep the headache and my wallet from being depleted, I will go for something simple.  For now  ;D.
