Biazon resigns

MANILA, Philippines - Customs Commissioner Rozzano Rufino Biazon resigned on Monday, December 2, three days after the justice department implicated him in the multi-billion peso pork barrel scam.

Biazon announced his "irrevocable resignation" in a press conference Monday afternoon.

Biazon, a member of the ruling Liberal Party, is the first party mate of President Benigno Aquino III to be implicated in the pork barrel scam.

The scam, which has angered millions of Filipinos who have demanded reform, involves lawmakers endorsing their PDAF to bogus non-governmental organizations (NGOs) of alleged scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles in exchange for hefty kickbacks.

Last July, Biazon offered to resign after President lambasted the Bureau of Customs' alleged incompetence and corruption in his 4th State of the Nation Address. President Benigno Aquino III did not accept his resignation. (READ: Aquino shames customs bureau). - Rappler.com

to be honest isa ako sa nagrereklamo kung bakit siya magreresign kung pwede lang sana manatili siya sa pwesto.

Marami siyang kalaban sa bureau of customs it means marami siyang pagbabago at nasasagasaan sa mga corrupt .

yung mga tingin nya corrupt na inilagay niya sa ibang pwesto / more on thinking capacity,  nagreklamo sa korte para maibalik sila sa pwesto.... yun ang mga dapat magresign,

ang masama lang out of delicadeza need nya magresign .

Sorry, my comment was not really about the resignation per se, but the absurdity of some Filipinos na kung pwedeng baluktutin ung balita e babaluktutin (or humugot ng lumang balita para ilagay sa "current events", as the case may be) makabatikos lang.

Will Napoles’ senators follow Biazon’s lead?
By Harvey S. Keh December 3, 2013 11:05am

It's disheartening to see a good leader leave government when the administration was already making gains in good governance. But Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon simply showed that there are still a few good men in our government who practice delicadeza.

Biazon said it well when he said that even if he still hasn’t been found guilty of the charges filed against him on his alleged involvement in the Pork Barrel Scam, he decided to tender his resignation because he feels that his continued stint in government will just become an additional burden to President Noynoy Aquino. He further added that he is at peace with his decision knowing that his sacrifice will be beneficial also to our country. A good public servant knows when it is time to make a huge personal sacrifice for the greater good of the country. Hopefully, when Biazon has proven his innocence, President Aquino will once again tap his services.

The question that lingers in my mind now is will our other so-called “honorable” Congressmen and Senators follow Biazon’s admirable lead or will they continue to hold more tightly to their positions? Sadly, I don’t think any of these lawmakers who were also implicated in the Janet Napoles’ Pork Barrel Scam will have the courage and honor to even consider taking a leave of absence from their office while the investigation is on-going. What is even disgusting is that one Senator even used his position to harass Commission on Audit (CoA) Chairman Grace Pulido-Tan during last week’s CoA budget deliberation before the Senate. This particular Senator who is accused of plundering hundreds of millions of pesos even had the gall to accuse Pulido-Tan of using government funds to travel abroad where in fact it is the duty of CoA to also visit and audit our embassies to ensure that government funds in these diplomatic posts are spent properly.

Biazon was charged with malversation of public funds to the tune of less than P2 Million and without even waiting for a week to pass he immediately files his irrevocable resignation while Senators Pogi, Sexy and Tanda are charged with plundering our country with almost a billion pesos and yet they continue to not only stay in their air-conditioned rooms in the Senate but they continue to use their office to intimidate the various government agencies that have uncovered their shenanigans and pinned them down. With Biazon’s shining example, perhaps now would be a good time for us to also demand the same delicadeza from the three of them and ask them to at least take a leave from their position. This is after all the most honorable thing to do for our leaders especially when there is strong evidence (credible whistleblowers and audited financial reports) to already suggest that they indeed took part in this whole Pork Barrel Scam.

But then again, I’m sure all of you will agree with me that this is simply wishful thinking. As my former teacher always told us in high school, “Wala namang mawawala, libre namang mangarap.”

a good read. most of us here wants some kind of delicadeza to the accused politicians.

kung malinis talaga si Biazon e dapat di mag-resign di naman natin kultura yung sinasabi nilang japanese resignation etc. etc.

tinatanong about JPE, estrada et. al ayon sa batas natin "INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY" kaya di sila nag-reresign e innocent pa din sila base sa rule of law hindi dahil opinion ng ibang tao di pa sila nahatulan so considered silang innocent kahit bilyon pa nakurakot nila

sa case there is a possibility  kaya nag-resign yan makakalkal ang lahat ng mga baho nya therefore mamatay ang career nya sa politics because pwedeng gamitin sayo yun it is a wise move para mamatay agad ang apoy dahil makakalimutan yan ng tao kaysa makalkal pa buhay nya

It's possible that former Customs Commissioner Rufy Biazon might be guilty as charged. It's possible that he does have skeletons in his closet that he doesn't want to brought to light. It's possible that those are the two foremost reasons why he resigned.

But then again, his resignation won't stop him from being haled into court should the charges against him be found sufficient in merit.

And then again, by the same token applied to Enrile, Estrada, and company, his resignation doesn't deprive him of the presumption of innocence to which he's lawfully entitled until proven otherwise.

Or perhaps some people just like to believe that since it excuses a lot of reprehensible behavior.

It's odd, really. We like to say that we should hold people in government to a higher standard. But when they do behave in such a manner, we chalk it up to some ulterior motive.
