Question regarding VGA card
« on: June 13, 2006, 05:51:30 am »
mga bosing! tulong lang po..kasi yung system ko bigla na lang nagre-restart in the middle of an operation..

kahit simpleng zoom or pan lang while using Graphics softwares like Photoshop, AutoCad, 3dMax..even while browsing sa Internet, mag scroll down ka lang magre-restart na..sinubukan ko rin sa PC games, ganun din..this is a newly assembled system.

i suspect there must be something wrong with my VGA card..but im not so sure about this so im seeking your help..

eto po ang aking system:

Windows XP Professional
Version 2002 SP2

Pentium(R) CPU 2.80 Ghz
2.84 GHz, 512 MB of RAM

eto po ang info ng aking adapter:

Chip type: GeForce4 MX 4000
DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
Memory Size:128 MB
Adapter String: GeForce4 MX4000
Bios Information: Version 4.18.20.36.00

I've read somewhere that I can adjust my display properties to the lowest setting
(screen resolution, refresh rate, color quality, hardware acceleration etc)

unfortunately, kelangan ko sa trabaho ko na mataas ang setting..so im asking for your advice..PLEASE HELP...ngayon pa lang, nagpapasalamat na po!

ok some small points lang, ur vga card isnt capable of handling software that demands high performance VGA cards, geforce 4 is too obselete na(in my eyes anyway), another is the BOIS of ur Motherboard must be updated to fix any problems with ur AGP slot(i assume), last point is that pls specify ur Motherboard kung ano ung ung chipset nya if Intel,Via or Sis kc Sis based MBs are NOT compatible with the GeForce series vga cards, pls post ur MB specs, hope tis helps clear somte things up

we have the sam chipset Intel 856PEPro 2 ung akin, ang the geforce series dsnt give me any problems, kc i used geforce 4 mx480 64mb, then geforce FX5700 256mb, now Geforce 6200 128mb

ok since mukhang ok ung MB mo baka ung bios ng MB mo mismo ang issue, u should first upgrade it, DL mo sa website ng MB mo ung BIOS settings na bago then flash ur CMOS, WARNING any error in flashing ur MB will cause irepairable and permanent damage, this used to happen to me sa old MB ko pero when i upgraded my bois nawala na ung reastart(i assume bigla magiging BLUE ung screen with some words then restarts-the blue screen is a DOS critical system error warning)

ur using high performance Grahpics progs like autocad and 3dmax im gona assume its too much of a load for ur geforce 4 handle, so i think u should upgrade na

also if ur using a "counterfit" copy of XP it may be the problem kc some copies of this are really bugged kaya get a copy na maayos or use orig winXP

hope his helps

before we actually assume that the problem is the video card

ano ba nangyari when the system restarted? blue screen? any message displayed in windows pag restart?

the problem can be caused by a lot of things, not just the video card. though its possible that the problem is the video pero this isnt the only possible cause

mga bosing salamat po sa mabibilis at informative na replies.. :)

pamilyar ako dun sa blue screen wid an error warning then restart kasi ganun din nangyari sa laptop ko some time ago...tapos sasabihin sa yo afterwards na windows recovered from a critical error (?) or something... ???

pero etong pc ko sa office, there's no blue screen or windows error message at all!! basta bigla na lang restart without any warning..except for a small clicking sound..then the screen willl go black and proceed to restart normally.....i usually have to redo my work kasi sometimes i forgot to save waaaa! >:(

actually, i tried something na napulot ko from my endless research abt this naks hehehe....just recently...i changed the color quality (display properties) to medium 16bit from the previous 32 bit...di naman na nangyayari yung restart for some time now pero of course my display quality is reduced.....baka lang po you have a better solution..yun bang wala akong kelangan baguhin sa display properties at resolution..

im hoping you guys can help me with this...if you can figure out what exactlly im facing here and any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated! ;)

first try is:

  • load bios defaults... then check if ok na...

  • try to take of the RAM and clean it by using an eraser...then check if ok na...

actually ok ang specs ng PC mo... may na set ka siguro na di nya kaya...

I agree with boss bodieph maraming causes sa error na yan.... First memory, second motherboard, lastly yong video card......

Under warranty pa ba yan? Kung under warranty pa yan eh hindi mo pa pwede mabuksan yong system mo..... Kung ikaw lang ang nag assembled niyan eh check mo muna if all the cards in your motherboard are porperly seated, your memory, video card and others..... Then try mo yong sinabe ni boss ZR, makakatulong din yon.... Baka rin may nag conflict dyan sa PC mo.....

Yan lang muna bro ! ;D

gano na katagal yung pc? it could be RAM problem

pag restart ba nya, you dont notice anything wrong? back to normal agad lahat? no slow down, all programs work?

actually i really admire yung specs mo..

512 RAM is good enough
128 is very good
Pentium that is 2.8 is totally good

====
if that is a newly assembled system like you said then contact your Dealer.. sila na bahala nyan...

dont try to examine it since may warranty pa baka may ma remove ka na mga sticker at ma void yung warranty mo...

if not factory defect on some parts of the CPU, im sure it is in the programs....

=====
if you are in the office as you said.... try to switch monitors... may iba din na ang frequency ng monitor ang humina at di na gagana...

Thank u very much guys for your helpful tips! I appreciate all your inputs and how i wish i have posted my query much earlier.........

Unfortunately....  :(

My system went down just yesterday....when i tried to restart...it went thru a network boot....then look for a boot disk (A)...and nothing more. :'(

When I tried to restart again and press DEL to enter the SETUP menu...my HDD did not appear ( i.e. Primary Master, Slave--not installed)....only the 2 cd drives are there... ???

Last resort, i brought my pc to the dealer to check the drive.....IDE cables....whatever...(sorry im not very technical abt hardware stuff).........still nothing!

The guy suspects that the hard disk is dead...what da!!! >:( i dont know what just happened! so i asked the guy to try to put a new HD just to check if it will work...
same thing happened...the system cant detect the NEW drive...

now he's thinking it might be the motherboard....honestly, i really dont care if it is indeed the MB...what i care about is my data on the drive!!!! im afraid i will lost everything i have on that drive...OMG not again!!!!

i dont know how you guys will react on this but just want u to know that im very thankful for your replies...

did he check the IDE cable? did he try to use another IDE cable?

its possible that its the motherboard though difficult to tell

if he tried another hard drive and still nothing then its definitely not the hard drive that has a problem

mga bosing!!!!!!!!  :)

unang una, maraming tenk u tenk u sa inyo lahat...well, the good news is, my system is back! ;) apparently, nagkaroon lang ng pagbabago sa settings at loose cables..how did that happen, i dont know hehehe....importante i did not lose my data..

im not sure though if my problem with the restarting stuff and all is still here...they checked the video card and said its fine, maybe kulang nga lang sa ventilation d2 sa pwesto ko..im taking steve's advice na bigyan ng breathing space ang machine ko :) hope it works...

pag nand2 pa rin, maybe its something else nga other than VGA...until that happens, im taking extra steps na to back up my data religiously just in case hehehe...

again thanks to all of u! marami akong matutunan d2 sa forum na to.
