The biggest plane in the world, a Ukrainian Antonov AN-225, landed in Zagreb airport Pleso to ship a KonÄar power generator to a power plant in the Philippines. The operation to lift the 140 ton heavy generator with special cranes took all day.
Due to thunder strike Philippine power plant San Lorenzo lost one of two generators that were made by renewed Croatian electric company KonÄar. Because of this a lot of Philippine population is without electrical energy and Philippine power plant is in hurry to get a new generator. KonÄar made new 310 MVA generator in record time, slicing the deadline by over a month. Problem is, it weights 140 tons and to shipping it by sea would take another 45 days. That's why the insurer of Philippine power plant decided to hire Antonov airlines, transport company known for owning the biggest air plane in the world Antonov AN-225 which is capable of transporting weight up to 250 tons. Antonov AN-225, also known as Mriya ("the dream" on Ukrainian), was constructed by Soviet Union's Antonov Design Bureau in 1988. and is the only one of it's kind in the world. It weights 300 tons empty and has wingspan of 88 meters. It is 18 meters high and 84 meters long and it holds 240 world records. It was designed for military purposes, but today it servers as mega cargo plane used for transporting extremely heavy loads. The embarking of KonÄar power generator into Antonov AN-225 took whole day on Pleso airport. The event raised big interest of the public and spotters who took opportunity to see the biggest airplane in the world.
