actually snyder did a good job on the movie adaptation, he remained faithful to the book, even though moore didn't want to make the watchmen into a movie (only dave gibbons was credited as co-creator). the retrospect in the beginning of the movie was excellent in telling how the world of the watchmen came to be. silk spectre II and nite owl II were a great tandem specially with the alley fight and prison escape scene. rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) could teach christian bale on how to correctly growl while speaking.lol.
and thank god they removed the pirate story and black freighter story, if they did included it, the movie would take 4hrs. the new ending worked for me, i think the giant squid ending would have sucked nowadays.
i get it why some people didn't like the movie expecting something superhero-ey. the wathchmen comic came out 1986-87, that time i revolutionized comic book story telling, that included political satire combined with sci-fi. it won numerous awards, Watchmen was the only graphic novel to appear on Time's 2005 list of "the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present.
kapag kinompare mo yung story ng watchmen sa mga story ng comicbooks todaay parang wala lang ngayun. but during the time it came out everyone who read it was blown away with the story and alam moore's way of writing. thats way the watchmen movie is big deal to comic geeks, everyone was expecting Snyder is going to massacre the story, there were a few bumps in the movie but all in all he did a good job.
oh and one more info, alan moore was quoted that he would never watch the watchmen if ever it becomes a movie. hopefully he watches it.. i wanna read his comments/review. moore is known to be really brutal when asked for a comment/review about other comics, movies, tv series.
sorry about the long post.
