Popular for his firm stance on the various issues faced by the country, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has emerged as the “Most Searched Presidentiable” when it comes to Philippine politics as disclosed by statistical data released by Google Trends.

In an article written by Mikkel Bolante for InterAksyon, it was disclosed that the 70-year-old politician from Mindanao has trended on Google’s web-based search engine in the recent months; with the month of December being considered as the peak as it was in that period that the mayor ‘cursed’  Pope Francis.

“If you take the ‘Pope, PI ka’ month as a baseline, it is easy to see how the searches for Binay, Mar, Grace, and Miriam all pale in comparison not only to that episode but also to all his other months since his rise in September,” the report stated.

Last December, members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Filipinos have slammed Duterte for speaking foul words against the supreme pontiff, whose apostolic visit in the country has caused a traffic standstill in Metro Manila in January 2015.

Duterte, who is a Catholic, has remarked during a political event, “Gusto kong tawagan, ‘Pope [expletive] ka, umuwi ka na. Huwag nang mag bisita dito [I wanted to call him and say, ‘Pope [expletive], go home. Do not visit us here.]”

The remark has drawn mixed reactions from the public, especially the Catholics, who brought to social media their sentiments on the presidential candidate’s statement.

The statistical report has also disclosed that the top five months of politically-related searches on Google have all belonged to the mayor, who is only tailed by Vice President Jejomar Binay, and Senators Grace Poe, Mar Roxas, and Miriam Defensor-Santiago.
