Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero topped the pre-election survey commissioned by broadcasting giant Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) and its flagship station DZRH.

Among the presidential candidates, Duterte who is running under the banner of the PDP-Laban was the top choice, logging 30.25 %. Sen. Grace Poe-Llamanzares placed second with 25.14%, followed by Vice President Jejomar Binay in third with 18.63 %. Former Interior Sec. Mar Roxas is in fourth place with 14.92%, and Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago in fifth with 6.22%.

In the vice-presidential race, Escudero garnered 28.49%, with Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr coming in second with 24.62%. Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano landed in third place with 18.25%. Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo is in fourth place with 12.53%, Sen. Antonio Trillanes in fifth with 7.75 % and Sen. Gregorio Honasan in sixth place with 6.11%.

In the senatorial race, re-electionist Sen. Vicente “Tito” Sotto III and comebacking Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson led the survey with 57.63% and 54.01% respectively. Senate President Franklin Drilon had 47.7.4%, Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, 46.97%; Senator Ralph Recto, 45.98%; Sen. Francis Pangilinan, 43.33%; Sen. Sergio Osmena III, 37.89%; Sen. Richard Gordon, 37.07%; Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, 36.64%; former Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, 36.26%; former Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros, 33.81%; Sen. Teofisto Guingona III, 26.22%; actor Edu Manzano, 21.38%; Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) chief operating officer Mark Lapid, 21.18%; and Valenzuela Rep. Sherwin Gatchalian, 19.46%.

With the biggest random sampling of 7,436 respondents interviewed face-to-face by Emeer 2 Research Services, the MBC-DZRH pre-election survey harnessed the strength of the largest radio network in Asia, broadcasting over 200 stations nationwide, with its 24/7 feeds heard throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Twenty-five households were sampled in each of 300 randomly selected barangays throughout different provinces all over the country. Researchers tapped male and female registered voters coming from ABCDE households. Each respondent was given a questionnaire resembling a sample ballot and asked for his choice for president, vice president and senators.

Survey results were weighed against the latest voting population of each province, and carry a 1.14% margin of error.

Figures showed Duterte leading the presidential aspirants throughout the country, except in regions 1, 2, 3, 4A, 4B, 5, 6, and 8 where Poe-Llamanzares topped the survey.

I hope Cayetano, surge soon. Compared to Escudero, Cayetano is much more brilliant and has guts!
